I don't think UK winning a title will impact the rest of the college basketball world that much unless, as I said, UK wins 3 titles in 5 years, which is highly unlikely. Klosterman tried really hard at writing something provocative, even groundbreaking, but there's no reason for Roy Williams, Bill Self, Coach K, and countless others change their methods. At least on the basis on one national title for UK. to suggest so is hyperbole; to believe so is idiocy.

no kidding. but your point is that a UK win will have somewhat immediate impact. it won't. it'll take several UK titles using that recruiting method and even then, I don't know that all the top programs will follow suit.

meh, it's just Chuck Klosterman. as usual, he intellectually herniates himself with an over-strained construction supporting a contrived commentary.

contra to Klosterman, the "one-and-dones" have already been concentrated at a few schools, and its been that way forever. his "fear" for college basketball was realized many moons ago.

that article i linked about JU's 1970 run paints a portrait of the college basketball "Establishment" that is every bit as vivid today as it was 40 years ago.

the sass market seems to have dried up around here compared to way back when. has everybody gone all touchy-feely or something?

Everybody left has lost their edge and is content to live out their hollow lives simply with remembrances of sasses passed.

well, that's mainly because of you. I knew this would happen if you came into power.

I cant help it if the sassologists of yesteryear have all gone to seed. They wander through their daily routine, lounging about on their leathern couches, recalling lost recollections of Hunter S. Thompson, absently prodding at their paraumbilical hernia.

They no longer have the desire and drive to mash the sass pedal for all they're worth. The smart ones have left the game altogether, while a remaining few play out the string on the fringes, clinging to relevance like a bad jam band 40 years past their prime.

you weren't a sassologist and still haven't attained that rank even with fodder like goldie to smack around. even Ding p3wned you.

"It was fun to dog on Pitino a few years ago but I don't even really connect with him as a former coach at Kentucky anymore."

Damn, after he brought UK back from the brink of utter destruction, led the team to multiple FF's, including 3 straight Finals appearances (I give him credit for '98), and this is the thanks he gets? I'm sure it will be the same for Cal if he produces the same type of run (certainly the greatest UK run by far in close to 50 years, and, for anybody who knows shit about the game, it was really a far greater run than anything Rupp ever did, as winning in the way Pitino did in the 90's was exponentially more difficult than running out some whitey's in the 40's who shot underhanded and only had to win 3 tourny games to win the title, against teams that were made up mostly of football players looking to stay in shape during the offseason - .but I digress) and then bolts for the Knicks. UK fans either love you or hate you. There's no gray area..

Actually, I think that if Cal was offered the Knicks job, he would turn it down. I think he loves being at UK and feels he is at the pinnacle of his profession, and will express that sentiment when he turns down the Knicks, which will, as he well knows, set the hilljacks a-daincin' and a-stompin', hamboning in the hills and hollers and doing their best impression of Jessco White on a sheet of plywood, or, if you prefer, the old dude in Deliverance who went to daincin' when the dude in the canoeing party started jamming with the retarded banjo dude...

"I do think that if Pitino could continue this resurgence at UL it would go a long ways to diminishing the Duke/UNC rivalry nationally."

I don't see how the UK/UL rivalry could ever diminish the UNC/Dook rivalry. If they can ever both consistently get up to that level, good for them, but I still don't see how that diminishes UNC/Dook. The only way our rivalry with Dook could ever be diminished is if one of us starts sucking for about 5 years in a row. I know you that's your dream, but I doubt that's going to happen anytime in the near future...
