well, add in a +17 solenoid. It wasn't needed but I figured with me jumping it so much it didn't have much life left.

its pretty rough though I'll admit, starts and runs fine, but looking it over more closely I can see the guy has had the duct tape mentality of keeping it running. Bolts missing from places that I wouldn't think would ever need to be removed.

I would be surprised if I get 2 seasons out of it as is but I'll do do what I can short of buying a new motor.

Some of those zero turn mowers do tend to make one jizz their pants a little.

decided to put in a fireplace insert, wood burning, after kicking around the idea for a few years.

I have got an education on it in the past few days.

Ended up buying one off craigslist, a Vestal stove, which is an OK model from the 80's however those models back then are now called "slammers" meaning you just slam them into the fireplace and start burning wood. They have a rectangular cut in the back that feeds directly into the flue and because of their design they are supposedly a fire hazard.

of course, they sold hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of these from 1950 - 1990 before they were required to be UL rated so the threat of their hazard seems a bit overblown

At any rate, I really like this model, it fits my fireplace perfectly so I spent a few hundred dollars to refurbish it with new glass and rope gaskets, and I will be putting a liner in my chimney so it will be up to code. Its rated for a 2200sq ft home, although I don't plan on it being a primary source of heat.

More of an ambience and a backup heat source if we lose power.

If you are thinking about doing this, I would not recommend going the route I did unless you can pick up a fireplace insert for a couple of hundred dollars that you really like. New inserts cost about $1200, and the liner, if you do it yourself to code will be another $800 in materials. At the moment I am in for $1300 dollars with a 1980's era stove that isn't nearly as efficient for heating as the new ones.

But its got a classic look and it works well with how our mantle and fireplace is setup.

I hope to be able to use my mid week.

I put a wood stove out in my workshop a couple of years ago and it gave me the bug to do it in my house. Doing it right however, its not a cheap endeavor.
