I love the Hornet. Absolutely amazing aircraft and man she was great to work on.

As far as the best looking fighter? Tomcat Baby! The deck guys would bring her up to the cats loaded for launch, and she would look at ya sayin “Don’t fuck with me... I’ll ruin yer afternoon “.

The Tomcat was indeed one of the coolest planes we ever made. No wonder they made a movie about it.

When I was in high school, I was a Sea Cadet whose unit was at NAS Atlanta. One of the very first Tomcats off the assembly line stopped off for fuel during a drill weekend. The whole base turned out too see it. As he taxi’d away, the pilot swung the wings back and forth, getting cheers. And as soon as he cleared the runway, he went vertical and kicked in the afterburners. The crowd made an “ooooh..... ahhhh.” For us enthusiasts of naval aviation, that was one, awesome, unforgettable sight.

I wish he had tipped one of those wings onto the top of your head and then aimed the afterburners onto your corpse...

The F-15 was and is superior to anything else made during its era, and if you don't believe it, ask some retired fighter jock in Goldsboro...

I'm sure in a 1v1 aerial engagement it was. The F15 was designed as a straight air supremacy fighter. The F14 had that as a role, but its design would surely have been restricted by the fact that it had to be a carrier based naval fighter. That means not only being designed to be able to get in the air and back down onto a boat, but also the fact that its primary aerial supremacy role would be get in the air and shoot down whatever is coming as soon as possible and hopefully do it way before it gets near the boat.
Sure, I could have stayed in the past. I could have even been king. But in my own way, I am king.

Edward F. Zachary. Built to take the punishment of a carrier environment. Of course, the Tomcat had a ludicrous advantage when coupled with the Phoenix missile system, and she was the only plane to fly it. Essentially she was a super hot girl that knew how to kick ass.

Plus the wings would sweep. If yer wings don’t fold or sweep, just stay on the porch.

Is that the one Maverick flew in Top Gun?

Air Force pilots will always say the F-15 was better. Navy pilots will always say the Tomcat is better.

With all due respect to the USAF, I side with the Navy. They have much ballsier pilots. It’s not that hard to take off and land on a mile long runway. Any airline pilot can do that. But it takes huevos grandes to land on a moving, rolling, pitching 5 acre flight deck at night that’s 100 miles from the spot where you took off.

I would think it would take a typhoon to make an aircraft carrier roll and pitch...

That's the mindset to which I was alluding. I'm a fucking civilian who hates confined spaces and loads up on scotch and xanax before boarding a plane. What the fuck would I know? Damn. You fuckers think I was serious?

Yes.

When you see Tom again, let him know the movie was truthfully about the plane... he was purely a supporting role.
