I heard that story today. I never heard anything about his girlfriend prior to that.

I thought about the gay angle when reading about Tuiasosopo, but it doesn't add up the the longer it described him. He seems like a serial offender, and it doesn't seem like creating a fake girlfriend would requir such an elaborate story.

I think the gay angle could be close.

Football stars have girls throwing themselves at him. So, making up a girlfriend gives you an out when propositioned or a friend tries to set you up. Eventually though, the friends want to meet the GF, so you have to come up with a story of why the girl never comes to games, parties, functions, etc. You kill her off when people start asking too many questions. Coming out as gay may not be accepted in his family and culture, as well as being Mormon and going to a Catholic school. Plus, being a gay rookie in the NFL next year and gay on the ND team this year might not be something he wants to deal with.

So, I'm saying gayness is plausible.

I just read the whole story. There appears to be some serious gaps if Te'o did indeed say he actually met her at some point.

But I'm not sure he did anything but tweet to her and others embellished the story.

I get it. But he killed her off like the day of a game, which doesn't really fit. His parents acted oddly in interviews too.

Yeah, aTm, I agree and if he was gay I don't think she would have "died." She would have "moved to Canada."

He just simply has a character flaw.

He plays for ND. Of course he's gay.

I agree with Tdot and Rat. He's as gay as Dooksucks in a popped-collar Izod.

"Remember when I had that girlfriend, and she died and you told me I never had a girlfriend?

Then, who did I talk to on the phone, Bart? Who did I talk to on the phone?!?"

Maybe Manti Teo was the player in the Lizzy Seeberg rape case and used his girlfriend in Cali as his alibi[/crackpot theory seen on the interwebz]

Why is it not uncommon for college football players to reneg on their comittment? Sounds like their commitment is more of a "well maybe" where its much more concrete in basketball

"George O'leary wants to be part of the fact-finding team on the imaginary dead girlfriend."

I bet he wants to be part of the imaginary apostrophe team as well...

"Donald Trump is sending a team of investigators to Hawaii to find the girl's birth certificate. We'll get to the bottom of it."

Hawai'i would also like take part in the imaginary apostrophe debate...

I think because the rosters are so small and each player so critical that the coaches view it as taboo to continue recruiting committed players in hoops. They recognize that it's risky to have kids flip. Another reason is the earlier signing period, hoops commits don't have to all wait around to Feb to sign.
