I also have 3 pair of croc canvas shoes. Once you get those broken in they are awesome.
The Santa Cruz? Love them! I wore thru 3 pairs of those, one after the other, over a number of years. They were all I wore before I got my Dudes...

As travelers flock back to Hawaii, the supply and demand of rental vehicles in the state has driven up car costs to as much as $1,000 a day, since many companies sold off parts of their fleets when bookings were low during the pandemic.

But now, some savvy travelers have found a new way to ensure they're able to cruise around the Aloha State on wheels — by renting a U-Haul.

"We have seen a considerable uptick in U-Haul rentals from customers who are visiting the islands now," Kaleo Alau of Hawaii's U-Haul Company in Hawaii told Insider last week. "We realize this demand is occurring when tourists are unable to secure a rental car, or they learn that our rental fleet options are more affordable."

I was telling my wife about that a few days ago. I would guess its next to impossible to rent a small van from UHaul in Hawaii

This is astonishing to me because my wife and I went to Hawaii 7 years ago and you could rent a car for about $10 a day including mileage. Did they just sell all the cars when covid hit?

well Hertz filed for protection and sold off a bunch of cars in their fleet.

I am renting two cars in June from them so I'm wondering what will be available to me. I suspect they have about 20 Chevy Malibu's to choose from and that's about it.

correct

and those 20 Malibu's will be like $200 a day or whatever it is. And remember, the "reservation" you make reserves ONLY the price, never the car. Many times I have gone to pick up my rental and they told me at the desk/kiosk that there are no cars to rent. My reservation meant nothing.

There is a car shortage. There is a car shortage because there is a semi-conductor shortage. New cars need system boards and semi-conductors for their microprocessors. So with the shortage, dealers are self-regulating their sales staff to sell ONLY to retail consumers, one by one. There is basically NO fleet sales from a dealer to Enterprise, Alamo, or Hertz. So the rental companies are struggling to rebuilt their fleets after Covid. So with the car shortage you get a car RENTAL shortage.

So you get people renting U-Haul on Honolulu to get around.
