Maybe the best thing that ever happened...play like a steaming pile and still get the W. This one was kinda like the opener last year when we gave up 35 points and 600 passing yards to Bowling Green and everybody said our defense was terrible.

Just so long as we don't shit the bed again when the gaytors arrive in 3 weeks..

UT won't go any further with Butch.

I have to grudgingly give you props for accepting the correction. I was hoping you'd defend UT's win and I was going to go off on a harangue about how far UT had fallen that their fans were now defending a shaky OT win over App State as anything but shitting the bed. But you didn't do that, goddamn you...

There's a sizable contingent here who think the jury is still out wrt Butch. The fact that he gave away the OU and UF games last year and tried to defend the undefensible still grates. Just own the fuck-ups and learn from it (ie: don't fucking do it again).
He recruits like a demon but his game management skills are in question. This year is the put-up or shut-up year...lose to UF again and get shut out of ATL and Butch is definitely on the ejector seat. Especially with a new AD and a new Chancellor coming on board.

The 'read option' is a joke. The only option is to hand it off to the running back.

I'd like the option to read your death warrant...

Butch is a politician, not a coach.

How good would the team be with pre-Butch level of recruiting? Struggling for .500 every year?

Recruiting is the most important part of college football coaching - it's easier to win with great recruiting and poor coaching than average recruiting and great coaching - but Jones really has shown no improvement in game planning and in-game adjustments. When Jimbo took over at FSU, he made a lot of mistakes in those areas as well (and was also an elite recruiter), but his in-game management has improved significantly and game planning is better (but still lacking, as seen in the first half of Monday's game).

Not if executed properly. When UNC is clicking, it's a big, potent part of our offense.

Fuck this playcalling by committee bullshit they have now though.

I should have said UT's read option is a joke. There's no option to it.

Phil being an OL himself and a longtime OL coach he knew the ground game and the personnel it required. NFL-bound linemen, and pound the rock with a bruising FB leading a quality TB. All those 1000 yd rushers, good lord.

Yeah, I'm no fan of the read option either. And it really sucks in short yardage situations, especially near the goal line. No fullback..so you kick a FG from the 2-foot line against OU.

That part is true. It is an open field play, not a goal line play. We ran a lot of Tebow like QB runs on the goal line with Williams, which worked well with his size, athleticism and ability to withstand hits and attempted tackles. Hood is a good short yardage back, but our staff would rather get too cute with shit.

Bonus points for the proper use of "you're", an absolute rarity amongst today's youth.

And the poor spelling reminded me of a pickup line my (then) ten year old came up with - "Are you from fourandahalfasee? Cause you're the only four and a half I see"
