It can certainly be used that way but it might not be the most optimal. That's basically exactly what I did starting from around 22 years old and pulled out some for a down payment. But in the end its designed for saving for retirement. The amount he will be able to use for a house payment won't be growing, he will only be able to take out a maximum amount exactly equal to what he originally deposited in without having penalties. The benefit of a Roth IRA is that while what you put in is taxed as normal (and therefore you can pull it back out if you want since you already paid tax on it), the gains end up being tax free once you reach retirement age, so you cant just pull those out before then.

so my mom tells me to stop by on the way to dropping my kid off at school, she wants me to bring my trailer and get her expensive tiller she bought 10 years ago and bring it to my brother.

whatever, I just chalk it down as shit I have to do to keep my 86 year old mother happy. So I haul my trailer 5 hours, park it in her yard and continue on to drop my kid off at school. The drop off goes clean but now I have to go back , load up the tiller, hook up the trailer and haul this thing back. My weekend was shot and I come dragging back in at 10:30 last night.

Multiple times she tells me how expensive it was and how my brother needs it, etc

So this morning I get out and actually take the time to look at this thing - the air cover is missing, the cables are rusted, the handle nuts are rusted solid and the handle is loose - I probably spent oh...an additional $30 in gas , plus I just bought $50 in parts. The damn thing is maybe worth $150 with everything fixed and running.

sometimes I wish I was the kind of son that would just tell her to leave this shit alone. She used to complain about how her parents (my grandparents) would drive her crazy when she was my age now because they were bored and came up with shit to do that included her because they couldn't get around to do it.

Now I'm in the same position. She is bored, can't do anything so she comes up with shit for me - her son 5 hours away to do stuff.

Damn, for some reason I was thinking your kids were still in high school and that you drove 5 hours out the way to get the tiller. Of course that struck me as odd, but then I remembered that you deliver office memos by car to Florida, so I thought "maybe?"

my son and I are the point where he is comfortable showing me nude pics from girls he meets on tinder.

Damn, Tinder just makes this too easy. I would have had to spend at least $300 in 1980's money to get to where he is with her right now after 5 conversations.

"my son and I are the point where he is comfortable showing me nude pics from girls he meets on tinder."

I'd say that's fair payback for 20 years worth of raising him. More than fair, actually...

my wife works with special need kids at her school.

This is what she does daily now for the foreseeable future . She is the one with glitter on her suit and flowers on her head, because she is a weirdo.

I think I'd find another job if that is what I had to do every day
