If you had gotten that in before Rat's riposte, I would've given you credit. Coming on its heels, however: F, take a seat!
Fair.

I don't think anyone knew about the movie. It was some Imam in Tripoli, or something, who first started cackling about it and (talk about bad news reporting fucking up people's understanding of politics) said it was being released widely in the US on 9/11. He's been talking about it for weeks and that whipped up the masses. I haven't seen any reports stating what the movie was called, or anything (rightly so, I guess). I only know it was made by a California Real Estate developer.

That shit was barbaric, though. Crazy.

Does the first part of this response bother anyone?
No, since the first thing to do is help to calm the situation. The film was made for 5 million using ~100 Jewish donors. A 13 minute video of part of the film was placed on youtube and someone dubbed the words in Arabic. Word was that it was going into wide release on U.S. screens

Not really. Why should it?

So I turned on CNN this am and Morning Joe. A lot of criticism of Romney's initial statement as reckless. Turned on Fox, and there was no mention of any statement from Romney. Perhaps they put his statement out earlier. But nothing at all about it.

I watched NBC news last night who led off with this story and footage of the libyan crowd storming the empbassy and scaling the oputer walls before bein dispersed and beaten back. Then the coordinated attack comes 12 hours later

My question is why we ddidnt deploy a hellival lot more assets into libya or totally evacuate the embassy

this looked like a powder keg ready to explode yesterday. seems like obama/DOD/CIA should have tooken those attack yesterday a lot more serious then they did

I was asking myself that this morning. Seems strange that we had an ambassador there without a squad of marines at the gate.

Yeah, that does seem a bit flat-footed.

Romney

What did he say that was supposedly reckless?

well after discussing with an ex marine embassy guard--one most of the perimeter is the responsiblility of the local nationals. two the marines cannot fire until the inner wall is breached --three we did send some extra marines in their at short notice yesterday--both of whom got lkilled trying to get in evidently

Ah, good information. Thanks, crash.

I found the Romney item just now. Damn, Mitt. Really? He wasn't getting my vote after the shit I saw in the Primaries and especially this Summer, but this cat is not ready to be Commander in Chief, by a mile.

Yeah, he doesn't have half the experience Obama had when he was elected.

Everyone just needs to be calm. This will all blow over and they will go back to being the peace loving ragheads we all love.

It bothers me only insofar as I'd rather my government applaud, support and foster all intentional efforts to denigrate religious beliefs. But I know that's never going to happen...

I can't find what Mitt said other than saying Obama's response was disgraceful.

Did he say more?

Someone told me about something interesting yesterday that I knew nothing about. Petro dollars. From what he told me, after Nixon stopped using gold to back the dollar, they made a deal with a lot of OPEC countries to say "We will give you all the weapons and military stuff you need to protect yourself from Israel BUT you must only accept US dollars from other countries to purchase your oil." Apparently a few countries recently have wanted out of this deal and wanted to use gold again instead of the US dollar. And of course, we do not like it in least bit. The countries in question:

Libya, Iraq, Syria, and Iran.

I will need to read more about it but

Petrol dollars have been an issue for awhile. Saddam threatened to switch over to the Euro (while he hoarded truckloads of US currency)

The first part doesn't bother me, per se, but it remains to be seen whether the film truly denigrates - it could just be the unfortunate, but fairly-stated truth.
