I think Romney did well, personally. Clint Eastwood however...sheesh.

I didn't see the Clint Eastwood speech but I read the transcript..it sounded like he couldn't keep a coherent thought
Eastwood could have been worth 3-5 more points in national polls too

Eastwood reminds me of my crazy uncle in Aberdeen. If Dirty Harry could master a Scottish brogue, it would be uncanny.

I"m feeling a bit better about Romney right now, but I still think he gets killed in the debates.
Obama didn't go for the jugular with McCain because McCain had a temper. He'd put a chokehold on Obama if he pissed him off.
I'm afraid Mitt is going to have a Rick Perry moment where Obama just shakes his head in reply and says "I can't believe the polls say I'm even with this guy!"

At a first impression of Clint Eastwood was that the guy is going senile, or he decided to wing it and was fishing for what to say. Then I thought maybe there is some artistic genius to what he did that a finance guy like me just doesn't understand, kinda like a Gary Busey kinda schtick.
Anyway, Mitt is what he is. He is not flambouyant, he is not a rah rah guy. His strength is that he is smarter and more qualified to get us out of the financial mess (and polls do show that Americans believe that he is better qualified). The question is do people feel that he cares about poor and middle income people as he fixes the economy, and if they don't feel that do they still vote for him anyway.
I think the debates will be ok for Mitt. He has shown in the primary debates that he is better in that format than giving speeches, and Obama, conversely, doesn't do as well in debates as he does with his speeches. I think the debate gap is narrower than what alot of people think.

I didn't think Eastwood's bit was all that bad, but probably not appropriate for that event. Romney I thought was a disaster from a personality standpoint. He's not a man, he's a cardboard cutout. Gave me the creeps. Ryan, OTOH, is on the verge of a long and successful career. I definitely see him as the GOP candidate in 2016. Young, tall, fit, decent looks, well-spoken, charismatic, intelligent sounding, brood of cute young 'uns and decently hot wife. That's 90% (at least) of the battle right there. I totally disagree with his politics on the social side, but that's irrelevant...

I'm hoping Rand Paul doesn't move to Kookville between now and 2016, I'd like to see him run.

I don't really see this as controversial as some people are claiming it to be...and I don't think this is really about profiting from slave labor, per se

He's basically saying what I was saying the other day, i.e., most people who are successful have advantages from the start. Just being born in America already puts you way ahead of the game compared to alot of folks in the other parts of the world...

Watched "Waiting for 'Superman'" last night. Incredible. If you want a decent picture of where we are as a nation, educationally, then watch this film. The skew a couple of things about the teacher's union, but it's a great piece, overall.

I agree with this guy. These conventions are over-hyped nothing. For all the pub, there are not THAT many people visiting here. In fact, the restaurants are suffering this week because security has chased all the normal workers and residents out of the city. Our city leaders squeazed a ton of money out of the business community to have this event and it doesn't provide that much economic impact. The CIAA tournament brings more economic activity to town than this dog and pony show.
