We've already taken our medicine. 30+ players left the football program, and Pearl got the boot. The transgressors (Pearl, Kiffin, Hamilton, Raleigh) are all gone.

I don't see anything happening football-wise. Hoops may lose a couple of schollys and get some more recruiting restrictions.

If you lose to Vanderbilt (or UK) in the next couple of years, then you will have more than hit rock bottom.

I'm speaking candidly on our football thread. I would not go to one of the AL school threads and crow about UT not getting any real NCAA sanctions because..well...I'm not insenstive to the fact that UA and AU have been ravaged by that governing body in the near past.

We've never forfeited a game or a championship or a post-season or a tv appearance. Historically the sum of our sanctions has been a handful of scholarships lost.... I believe our conference record for being least sanctioned is exceeded only by Vandy.
::Knock on wood::, I hope our history of playing by the rules has some bearing on the committee's determination. We shall see.

Tennessee has dodged many bullets. I do not think you can attribute your lack of sanctions to a superior moral foundation. Even recently, you could have been prison raped for the Tee Martin Western Union stuff as well as the Eric Locke stuff or Pat Washington offering $75k for Albert Means. The fact that a couple of scholleys was the sum of punishment doesn't mean much.

The fact is that the NCAA acts with lenience one day and with the fist of an angry god the next.

Heh @ dodged bullets and almost prison rape stuff.

Seriously, though. The Bear really was gay. Right?

....And Neyland was a pedophile.

And I never said "almost prison raped," BlueSaw (HackTick?) - I said "could have been."

The NCAA has a history of severely punishing teams with the evidence they had on Tee, and the two schollies for Eric Locke could have been 20 (depending on who was on the CoI).

The hits just keep on coming. Now Malik Jackson is injured, although it seems not seriously. But he will miss a couple of weeks of practice. That leaves 0 returning starters from last season's front seven on defense.

No word on that so far. IMO, when it comes to showering, no news is good news.

Tick I hope you are right. I really don't know what to expect, and perhaps its because I've seen them thrash us and others over things when they wouldn't have even had a good investigation had we not given them a lot of what was used against us. I suppose I'm a "plan for the worst" kind of guy and anything less is gravy.

The last few years have been so bad that most of us can't imagine it getting much worse. If the NCAA wants to continue to punish us even more than we have already suffered, then so be it. We'll take whatever they dish out. But the offenders are long gone. And I think most of us feel like we'll get the benefit of some sort of "time served" proportionality. That doesn't mean we'll get nothing -- just that it won't lump too much more misery on us.

...and then there's the whole Teflon thingy.
