NYT worried about gubment interference in economy........in China.

After more than a decade in which private companies have been the prime engine of China’s economic miracle, the Chinese government is eager to control more of that wealth — even if that means running roughshod over private companies.

Chen Zhiwu, a professor of finance at Yale University and a harsh critic of the state’s dominant role in the economy, says the Chinese government is smothering the private sector. “When the government is involved in business, it’s hard for private companies to compete,” Professor Chen said.

The usurping of private enterprise has become so evident that the Chinese have given it a nickname: guojin mintui. That roughly translates as “while the state advances, the privates retreat.”

Some prominent Chinese economists are warning that the potentially corrosive effects of an approach that favors government companies at the expense of the private sector could eventually stifle innovation, saying it could stunt China’s long-term growth and quash the rising aspirations of the nation’s 1.3 billion people.

“If China doesn’t deal with this problem and strengthen the private sector, this country’s growth is not sustainable,” said Xu Chenggang, a professor of economics at the University of Hong Kong.

You can't make this sh!te up.

Senate Environment and Public Works Committee Chairwoman Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) blasted skeptics of climate science Wednesday, alleging they are “endangering humankind.”

“The message I have for climate deniers is this: you are endangering humankind,” Boxer said during a press conference in the Capitol. “It is time for climate deniers to face reality, because the body of evidence is overwhelming and the world’s leading scientists agree.”

So the previous reports are accurate. The Iranians got that drone INTACT. Wow. That is stunning. Those things must really be programmed so that, when they lose contact with their controllers, they look around for a nice soft place to land, even if that place is behind enemy lines.

Whoever came up with that brilliant piece of programming must also be the architect of Fast and Furious. They should be tried for treason, or at least terminal stupidity of the highest order.

The only good news is that Barbara Boxer thinks I am endangering mankind. That brightens my day.

Santorum told the group he would cut the food stamp program, describing it as one of the fastest growing programs in Washington, D.C.

Forty-eight million people are on food stamps in a country with 300-million people, said Santorum.

"If hunger is a problem in America, then why do we have an obesity problem among the people who we say have a hunger program?" Santorum asked.
Isn't Santorum the Religious Right candidate? Cutting off food from millions of unemployed/poor people doesn't strike me as something Jesus would approve of.

Knee-jerking hard enough there, fellas? Santorum is one of those guys who the left loses their minds over every time he utters a word. I didn't see him say he would get rid of food stamps. A "cut" in Washington terms usually implies a decrease in spending.

So Hack's and Toe's and many conservatives' dreams of abolishing food stamps for poor/unemployed people remains tragically unfulfilled.
