Loved Fargo. Also loved TD. Probably have them tied.
Thornton knocked the Malvo character outta the park, but so did Matthew McConahey(sp?).

with the popularity of American Sniper, a forum I visit stumbled upon this guy and I'll be ordering the book today
a real life Josey Wales
A quiet, unassuming, and wealthy plantation owner, Jack Hinson was focused on his family life and seasonal plantings when the Civil War started to permeate the isolated valleys of the Kentucky-Tennessee border area where he lived. He was uniquely neutral--friend to both Confederate and Union generals--and his family exemplified the genteel, educated, gracious, and hardworking qualities highly valued in their society. By the winter of 1862, the Hinsons' happy way of life would change forever.
Jack Hinson's neutrality was shattered the day Union patrols moved in on his land, captured two of his sons, accused them of being bushwhackers, and executed them on the roadside. The soldiers furthered the abuse by decapitating the Hinson boys and placing their heads on the gateposts of the family estate. The Civil War, now literally on Hinson's doorstep, had become painfully personal, and he could remain dispassionate no longer. He commissioned a special rifle, a heavy-barreled .50-caliber weapon designed for long-range accuracy. He said goodbye to his family, and he took to the wilderness seeking revenge.
Hinson, nearly sixty years of age, alone, and without formal military training, soon became a deadly threat to the Union. A Confederate sniper, he made history after single-handedly bringing down an armed Union transport and serving as a scout for Nathan Bedford Forrest. A tenacious and elusive figure, Hinson likely killed more than one hundred Union soldiers, recording the confirmed deaths on the barrel of his rifle with precision.
Despite the numbers of men sent to kill him, Hinson evaded all capture, and like his footsteps through the Kentucky and Tennessee underbrush, his story has been shrouded in silence--until now.

Three hundred thousand yankees lie stiff in southern dust.
We got three hundred thousand before they conquered us.
They died of Southern fever of Southern steel and shot.
I wish we got three million instead of what we got.

Nothing like a plantation owner in the mid nineteenth century who ran with Nathan Bedford Forrest to get me to solidify my pure non-desire to read that book.
Think of it as asking a Jew to read and appreciate the literary merit of Mein Kampf.

I doubt there is much pro slavery talk in the book.
The guy lived on the Kentucky/Tennessee border so calling him a plantation owner is probably a stretch anyways.

Nathan Bedford Forrest started the first branch of the Ku Klux Klan in Pulaski, TN. Maybe OG Josie Wales wasn't much of a plantation owner, but that ain't really my point. Just principles, for me.
I ain't begrudging your move to read about dude's general badassery, but I sit those types of things out. I have a very thick skin for most things racial, but (even if his story carries not one single thought or missive about race) nahhhhh.

well I don't blame you - certainly I'm not reading it for any slavery nonsense.
I remember Forrest started the KKK now from Forrest Gump.
Didn't make that connection until you mentioned it.

Why is that hilarious to me? Holy fuck...I guess it's the combination of whimsy and violence. I don't want to get all Larry Gagosian, and shit, but that's gold.
