This is what pisses me off about baseball today. 1st and 2nd, nobody out, down by two runs, 9th batter up, Otahni on deck.

Why aren’t you sacrificing the runners over in that situation?

I think a sacrifice in that situation would be even more stupid than it usually is. You'd waste one of your chances to get a hit to score the tying run which is already at second base.

In the best case you just move the runners to 2nd and 3rd to move the runner representing the winning run up a base, but then Ohtani would just get walked, both to set up the double play and because you dont want to face him. You're taking the bat out of his hands, and now you're in a situation where its much more likely that a groundball ends the game. The odds of hitting into a triple play are very low, it was just bad luck.

They were down 2…the tying run was at 1st…

Depends who’s coming up. Also might just be letting his team play balls out since they already pretty much clinched everything. Plenty of high-octane offenses in the recent past that did not like to sacrifice.

That makes it more justifiable. Id downgrade it from stupid to just dumb then.

Is the Padres announcer the same guy that does the Zaxby's commercials?

Should have given him a 20 year ban then let him in. Brought way more good than harm to the game.

To bad he didn't get in. Great player. Controversial man. My favorite.

They should have one day next season where everyone wears #14 and busts their ass on every single play.

I’d watch that.

The reason Pete was in a wheelchair was because his back hurt, not because he was sick. At least he waited until the Reds season was officially over & he got to hang with his boys one last time.

Pete was 83 year old. I wonder if he took the over or the under?
