so I've decided to change my lifestyle to the point that I can give up statins - I've essentially given up red meat for 6 months now, as well as any processed meats (mostly just sandwich meats). I still eat the occasional pork chop and bacon on a turkey club. I've also given up soft drinks and drink sweet tea - natural sugars, not artificial sweeteners.
Bloodwork last week had my cholesterol at 163 which may not be great but its a damn site better than it used to be and I'm not taking lipitor.
This week I gave up Prilosec which is tough - I'm mostly converting to grazing all day as opposed to ever having a heavy meal, no tomato based stuff like pizza sauce or salsa, no citrus and moderate dairy- its only been a few days but I haven't had any noticeable heartburn but it feels like I could have it any minute.
Not really losing any weight but the weather sucks so I never go outside. My plan is by summer to just be taking an aspirin a day and Flonaise - and give up all the prescription and over the counter stuff I've been living off of for the past 5 years.
Too many side effects and Its worth the bland diet trade off to me.
Welcome to 50 eCat - your best days are behind you.

I think I would rather take the Crestor and Prilosec.
And sweet tea is horrible. Often worse than sodas for total sugar.

I'm not worried about the sugar as much as I am all the other shit they put in soft drinks
Tea is water, sugar and tea

It's like mainlining carbs. The blood sugar jump and insulin reponse is associated with type II diabetes, which increases the risk of stroke and heart attack.
Pretty sure you're gonna be singing a duet with Bon Jovi soon.

LOL @ the string.
Good on you, eCat. Keep up the good work. The more you can adjust your diet to eliminate scrips is. Don't let the bastids up in here knock you off your path.

Due to illness I'm unusually working from home. Watching ESPN and discovering this Carrie Champion for the first time. Wow.
