The Post reports today that the IRS’ internal projections estimate that the DOGE-driven disruptions to the IRS since the inauguration are on track to have reduced tax receipts by more than $500 billion by April 15th. This, to be clear, is not a final tally. It’s not April 15th yet. It’s a projection based on historical data, the number of people who’ve filed, paid owed amounts of tax, etc. It’s worth taking a moment to put this number into some context in case half a trillion dollars doesn’t do it for you. Non-defense discretionary spending is the cost to fund the U.S. government once you take out mandatory spending (mostly Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid) and the cost of the U.S. military. For 2023 that number was $917 billion. So that’s most of the stuff we think of as the government, apart from those payment programs and the military. In other words, in about eight weeks DOGE managed to lose the U.S. government — more or less light on fire — more than half of what goes to all non-defense discretionary spending.

The IRS is dysfunctional. I used to have to deal with them every day. They can't even do basic stuff in the present let alone project anything. It's some bureaucrat pulling numbers out of their ass to try to keep from job reductions in the agency.

At least the GOP with Trump in office has found ground for abortion that disconnects them from the federal government. Throw in that Dem's main messaging is being against government waste and they are willing to burn down Tesla dealerships to fight it, and its just horribly bad messaging all the way around. Even now Gen Z males are turning over to conservatives - not traditional RINOs but Trump conservatives who are pushing concepts like traditional marriages (1950's era roles) and all the morality that goes with it.

The only thing that might save them is a massive recession in 2027 or some corruption issue that Vance is involved in. I think he is too smart for that.

funding - losing big pharma money is huge (and USAID may be just as big)
influence - twitter and other platforms are sources of information that people go to first now and the media , even on a 24/7 news cycle can't keep up with the instance and overwhelming amount of information available at their fingertips
credibility - the Trump administration and the GOP representatives know how to handle these guys and shut them down. They call them liars to their face on the air and its killing ratings.

now add in that the reason they went after USAID first, instead of much larger spending such as the Pentagon, is because they knew from day one what the role of USAID had become and that is proxy funder for the democratic platform. Its now defunct so the money laundering is gone.

As far as the Gen-Z males voting for Trump goes, I don’t think that has to do with 1950s morality so much as it has to do with anger and sexual frustration and bitter revenge at female rejection. and for whatever reason, the traditional role of husband, wife and to some extent, Christian morality is appealing to them. I wouldn't call those guys basement dwellers or incels, I just see them as young men who have little interest in dealing with indoctrinated women, especially the college educated ones. They'd rather marry a woman working in the service sector making low wages who hasn't had 5 abortions or wears a nose ring - and start from nothing to build a life with them as opposed to the educated professional who has very definite opinions , many of them self harming to their gender about womens rights and roles.

look at studies of women's happiness comparing women who haven't had children versus women who had, and then throw in single mothers versus married women.

its all tied together and now Gen Z, realizing that a big part of it is the mentality of people, want to shed all of that and just go back to what built our society for hundreds of years.

in some ways I think Gen X and Gen Z are similar. We grew up as latch key kids, seeing parents with incredibly high divorce rates and Gen X did not want that with their partner. It happened of course, but Gen X wasn't accepting of it. Gen Z , at least a sizeable segment of them, appear to be embracing the importance of traditional values now as well.

At the same time, I think its goes too far. The Andrew Tate types are toxic, but I do think Charlie Kirk is generally a positive role model for young males.
