Agreed. However, that is the condition of most ALL state's public school systems currently.
Incorrect. There are a lot of places where public education is fairly decent. Illinois is a fiscal basket case, but the public schools here are pretty darned good. Ditto for other midwestern states. That's one reason why midwestern state universities also rank very high in national rankings; Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan are all excellent academically. This somewhat atones for their slow-motion brand of football.
And as for dissing on Mississippi, I have never been there but will take prof's word that it's a conglomerate of trailer parks which happen to be lucky to have some coastline and casinos.
That's a fair assessment. MississiPi exists for the sole purpose of giving Alabamians somebody - anybody - to look down on.

Absolutely nothing makes up for B10's slow brand of football.

B10 football has its advantages. When the center snaps the ball, you can go to the concession stand, buy a hotdog and coke, and get back to your seat in time to watch the end of the play.

We always say it, but the holidays should serve as a reminder of the really important things in our life. Hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving.

101 years ago today my great grandfather arrived by steamer to this country. A cooper by trade, he was hired by an agency looking for people to expand the offices of Sloss Furnace. He worked there for 4 years before joining the Army after WWI broke out. Upon return from the war, he enrolled at the University of Alabama where he earned a doctorate in chemistry and taught until he died in 1970.

Just wanted to give everyone something else to be thankful for. Had my great grandfather stayed in Aberdeen, you'd never have been given the joy of reading my posts.

You are all welcome.

My great grandmother was born in the USA. Her family came over from Edinburgh years before my great grandfather and settled in Ohio. They met and married in 1912.

You are quite the daft little baffoon, aren't you?

If my great grandfather had stayed in Aberdeen, he would not have met and married my great grandmother.

They once had the internet in Jefferson County Alabama, but they can't make the payments anymore, so service was disconnected.

Aberdeen? I thought your ancestors came from Ireland.

In a way they did. The Scots expanded into Ireland.
