I realize that moonshiners show is hopped up reality TV

but behind all the bullshit, there is an art to what they do.

A few year ago, I sent out for a free government supplied pamphlet on building a still. I don't remember the details but the gist of it is your allowed to make ethanol for fuel and guess what - a still is the most efficient way a regular guy can do it so the government has information on how to build one.

They were making Rum and Scotch on the last episode I caught. I'm kinda motivated to try to make a batch just to see if I can do it.

I might just have to do this

You can do it on your stove top or, as I'm sure you have one, a propane heat source in your garage. Or you can get back to your roots and tend a wood fire in your backyard with a plug of chaw in your jowl, periodically spitting a stream of tobacco juice into the coals whilst cutting eyes at the surrounding darkness like a vigilant chow dog, scanning for thieves...

I think you just need to make sure you ferment grain and not just throw in any kind of bullshit into the grist like wood or whatever. The going blind thing is not a problem when you're making your own to drink, its an issue when you're buying from some hillbilly in the woods who threw god knows what into his recipe to make a quick buck.

There was a misspelled word so I immediately discredited the post and you.

It is if you've seasoned it properly and not warshed it with harsh detergents and emulsifiers...

I've cooked ALOT with cast iron cookware - all of it well seasoned and used for at least a decade

you can't fry an egg in it and it be non stick. It just ain't happening.

melt half a stick of butter on that thing before you crack the eggs, they won't stick. But yet and still, whatever you're cooking, just put a little water in the pan after you're done cooking, it'll boil almost immediately and anything stuck to the pan should come off with minimal scrubbing...
