The Long Depression for the United States meant that we STOPPED growing at 6.2% per year and had to settle with just 4.7% annual growth for 17 years. And for us, that was almost entirely because the market for silver collapsed and prospectors had to look for something else (gold.) So a long depression for the USA (at that time) meant just great economic growth instead of incredible and unprecedented economic growth like what we were used to!

From 1873 to 1890, the United States was at peace. The entire growth of our economy was based on nothing more than consumer growth. Ulbricht's judge sentenced him to life for his lawyers claims that she equated to white privilege. She literally said that no meth dealer from the streets would use this defense and its privilege that makes you think you can use it here, then sentenced him to life without parole.

He served 11 years. That seems more than reasonable for his crimes compared to others.

Getting to brass tacks on this Gulf of Mexico renaming, really this is all just about the Panama Canal. Now that IS a big deal. We need to keep that working properly and at the moment, it isn't. The lake in the center of it needs to be flooded with ocean water and at the moment it isn't because Panama (the people that live there) are fucking everything all up since we gave it to them. They are 3rd world and are far too incompetent to handle anything that valuable. So now they rely on China to help clean up a mess they made. And we can't have that.
