What they are being compensated to offset lower wages, hard hours, and employment restrictions, is residency and citizenship, something Americans already have and therefore worthless to them.
The corporations are paying their employees in a currency that ultimately comes from the taxpayer. Maybe there needs to be a way to make the businesses pay us back for what is ours that they are giving away to hire these “necessary immigrants.”

Re: Florida State Seminoles
AI is going to make mundane tasks like coding obsolete - the need for entry level college immigrants is going to drop noticeably in the next few years.
Our work force is probably 20% Indian. All of them are well adjusted and Americanized as you'd expect anyone to be. They are the poster child for the great American melting pot. We don't pay them any less as their white or Eastern Asian counterparts and they have the same opportunities for growth, admittedly though much of our company culture is still an old "white" boys club
It would seem however we might be the exception from what I am reading online. It is not difficult for us to hire technical engineers and we only hire Americans, we do not utilize H1 or sponsorship of any kind. The reality is there are more than enough American born or naturalized citizen Indians in the tech field to hire and they represent a noticeable size of the engineering/tech worker pool
I also don't have any trouble finding white male or female engineers or tech. But try finding an African American Engineer or Comp Sci student. They are out there but its maybe 1 in 40 candidates. We do not recruit HBCU's, we only focus on schools with established engineering schools which is where you will end up finding a higher % of Indian/Asian heritage candidates.
In the past 5 hiring pools we have had 4 African Americans, so that is 4 out of 160. I think the challenge isn't what you think it is, yes there are fewer African Americans in Engineering and Tech, but for those that go to a traditional engineering school, companies seek them out. I can pretty much guarantee if you are an African American with a mechanical engineering degree with a 3.0 GPA from a known state or private school, you're getting a 100K a year offer, probably multiple.

I've actually never had a problem with stapling a green card to an immigrant graduating with a stem degree. That number would be a small % compared to the masses of bean pickers, landscapers and fenatyl mules they are letting in now. And the moment they got their green card they are paying into the system 20 - 30K in taxes.
The issue in this country is there are too few Americans that want to put in the effort to be an engineer or computer scientist, and if they feel that being a coder is too menial task while they earn $65K a year or more, then that's an issue with their value system. Yea we crank out hundreds of thousands of young engineers every year but I bet the demand is higher than the supply, but in the true American fashion, instead of investing the price to create supply, they outsource it to other countries.
that said, I'm not sure if even if an entry level tech job paid $100K a year, that it would significantly increase the number of young Americans doing it. Its just not an exciting field for kids.

Re: Florida State Seminoles
Thank you Sardis. That was nice. I take issue ONLY with these comments from Nicole.
An entry level programmer (age 22) writing .Net code, C#, Javascript, React, Angular, anything where he is tightly managed, that pays a US citizen $53 an hour, even in Mississippi. That is junior level coder.
An Indian on H1B comes here and agrees to be paid $35/hour for the job (and works 14 hours a day for 8 hours pay.) And the family moves here and lives in apartment squalor and lives on pizza for years and years. That is because in Bangalore, if he did the same work offshore, he gets $8.50/hour and the consulting company that acts as his pimp, they get $31.50 an hour for their cut.
I saw all the spreadsheets, saw all the bids, everything.
Other than that one thing that Nicole should have already known, I liked her comments.
No. It IS for the salary.

btw, lost in the H1-B visa debate, apparently the bond market is blowing up while "independent of presidential influence" Janet Yellen is pushing to cut interest rates.
That is setting up an inflationary spike. Its almost as if they are willing to let Americans suffer just to show Trump can't lower prices.

Re: Florida State Seminoles
I am now retired (very recently.) In my 28 year IT career (26 years writing code) about 50% of my coworkers were Indian. I have spent many years at consulting companies.
We paid them much less. And why? Indians generally do not negotiate on salary the way US citizens do because (well) US citizens just take whatever job pays the most. The Indian is trying to get a Visa and takes what they get to come here and escape Slumdog Millionaire.eCat wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2024 8:57 pmAll of them are well adjusted and Americanized as you'd expect anyone to be. Consulting companies like to hire Indians because when they do, the sales people can go into the sales meeting with the client and say they can compete solely on price and work cheaper than the competition. The sales people have NO IDEA what the level or depth of expertise the Indians have. No idea at all. But they will always say "yes we can do it" without even knowing what they are agreeing to. That is because it is very easy to extort so many hours of labor (much of it free) from the Indians who submissively obey. And basically, the Indian will agree to go into the client and do the work without any information gathered in advance.

I am kind of checked out on the Biden (I mean) mysterious, anonymous, top men administration. These top men disappear on Jan 20th and none of us will ever know who they were.eCat wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2024 9:14 pm btw, lost in the H1-B visa debate, apparently the bond market is blowing up while "independent of presidential influence" Janet Yellen is pushing to cut interest rates.

That honest and meaningful conversation is not allowed to be had by anyone on Capitol Hill if they want to win re-election. Only Eric Weinstein is willing to talk about this at a macro-economic and socio-economic level. But he isn't running for office anytime soon.aTm wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2024 8:03 pm What they are being compensated to offset lower wages, hard hours, and employment restrictions, is residency and citizenship, something Americans already have and therefore worthless to them.

You mention AI and coding and that’s what concerns me. Bringing all these immigrants in to do a job that will be outdated in a few years causing more competition for jobs in that industry and suppressing wages even more.
I don’t mind temporary fill-ins that doesn’t lead to permanent visas or citizenships.

Re: Florida State Seminoles
after reading up on the H1-B job database, it is concerning
and it looks like Mr. Free Speech himself isn't tolerating any dissent on it, which isn't a good look, along with Vivek generalizing Americans as valuing the prom queen over the science geek.
looks like there is a revolt among the MAGA ranks on this topic. The wealthy people say we need that elite talent to take an entry level accounting job. The rank and file are saying American jobs are for American workers.
I still say there aren't going to be enough scientists and engineers, but it appears that isn't the problem with H1-Bs, so I'd agree with you

Re: Florida State Seminoles
There’s not enough for accounting either. I just retired as a partner in a firm that looked to hire from India to fill the gaps. Accounting industry had suppressed wages for so long it drained the pipelines, i.e. colleges. Accounting programs are 40% of what it was when I was a student. In the meantime, partner comp exploded. CPA partners, now, live a whole lot better than the partners when I was staff.
You would have more accountants if you paid more and capped hours to 50 hours a week, but that would eat into the massive profits they’ve been used to.

Welcome aboard, comrade. The bad news is that all corporations do it, not just ones hiring programmers. Still, your best post ever. Well done. The corporations are paying their employees in a currency that ultimately comes from the taxpayer.

I would love to see AI write computer code for itself. A thinking machine, and we have SkyNet launching ICBMs at Russia.sardis wrote: ↑Sat Dec 28, 2024 7:58 am You mention AI and coding and that’s what concerns me. Actually, I am not sure that this could ever really happen. Its kind of like a digital slot machine, it isn't truly random. It is impossible for a computer to roll a die and truly come up with a random number. The algorithm might be written to give random numbers but if you can see the machine code, you would know how exactly that number is generated (usually from the clock.)HAL wrote:I'm afraid I can't do that Dave.

Re: Florida State Seminoles
There is no true randomness. It wouldn’t make sense in a deterministic world. That’s what all the die hard Christian philosophers who spout free will are missing. If your shit is not caused in any way by the past, it’s nothing more than random events. Even at the quantum level where things appear to be random, we just don’t fully understand what’s going on.

why work or even try to better yourself if no one will fuck you? and if you can get fucked, why better yourself if all you can marry is a strung out whore with 3 children from 3 different baby daddies if she can just divorce you and take half so she can go fuck Chad? why do anything at all other than smoke weed and play videos games?
Just stay home with mom and dad into your 50s and patiently wait until they die, eating junk food, living in their basement, and masturbating to porn.

It seems like a lot of that will be done by AI soon with a human doing review over work that would have necessitated several others previously. So, you’ll be replacing multiple positions with one person reviewing it, no?sardis wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2024 10:54 am Wow. Makes too much sense.
