if one was so inclined to own a gun, getting a boyds stock makes a nice upgrade to your existing collection

I thought, ok, my wife is hitting the big 50 in a couple of years, I should do something nice for her. A trip I says to myself, a trip with her and the kids to a bucket list, place - Venice maybe.
So I do a search for travel packages and Costco travel pops up so I says, hey Costco is good stuff and good prices., so I punch in the information and say, lets do this for 7 days, 2 days in venice, 2 days in florence, 3 days in Rome. Airfare and rail travel, all that jazz.
the website goes off and does its little hourglass thingy and comes back with the package price
$11,841.00
GAWD DAMN!
so I says to myself, I should do something nice for her, like a buy her a bass boat.

Priceline a trip to Rome. Have that as your home base and see Florence and some close by sites on a day trip or two.
7 days is nor enough time to do overnights in Rome/Venice/Florence justice. Imo, anyway.

Honestly, you could easily fill all 7 days in just Rome - especially with a day on Florence (it's close).

Package trip was the easy route. I expected to see $6k, not a damn BMW motorcycle. So I will have to look at what other options are. Priceline scares me because I have been burned on what they think is a 4 star hotel before.

The vacation packages on Priceline show you the hotel. No guessing.
You have 2 kids, correct? That's 4 RT airfares. That's the bulk of your cost.

That price didn't seem exorbitant for a week in Italy for 4 people. You might could find something for less than that, but there's no way to take 4 people to Europe for a week for $6K. I would think the flights alone would be upwards of $1000 each...

yea I get that, I was figuring $900 to $1K for flights, but I think they are more than that, plus multiple cities versus 1 and the rail costs.
I'm not going to go on the cheap though - at least with the wife and kids, so either the kids stay home or we seek an alternative.
My value system, regardless of what I have in the bank does not allow me to spend $11,000 for a single week vacation. My depression era grandparents would rise up out of the grave and slap me on the back of the head

I am at the tail end of a week in Paris with my family of four and I'm sure we'll end up doing this under $10K and probably around $7500. The key is that I got insanely lucky with airfare. I got all four of us here for about $2200 which is a miracle. AirBnb is also a huge saver when dealing with four people. Also, I refuse to take any cabs or Uber when over here so we end up walking a ton and learning the metro system intimately. Cabs can add up fast.

So the family vacation abroad is basically a series of forced marches around Paris?

A friend of mine I grew up with, owns a bar-b-q stand back in my home town, 3rd generation bar-b-q place, my dad built the place back in the 50's for them.
At any rate, I haven't been in touch with the guy since high school - at least not face to face - he reached out to me on facebook several years ago and the guy was always posting about wrestling. You know the local - Wednesday Night at the Paducah National Guard Armory, bring the kids - sort of thing but this guy was traveling around a 3 hour radius and I realized he was one of the wrestlers.
Never thought much about it until someone posted a picture of him on facebook last night
gawt damn! I ain't one to talk but he needs to give up that wrasslin and take up Zumba. It takes a confident man to show up in public looking like that.
IWA - come for the wrestling, stay for the CPR
