Yeah, I read about the olive oil problem a year or two ago. I did not know what type is the best one to buy, so thanks for that recommendation. I never go to Trader Joe's, though. So, I have to figure out a different way to circumvent The Sopranos.

I read an article about this from 2 years ago and they said that Costco's Kirkland brand was for real as well.
My wife went to Trader Joes this morning and bought some of the California brand , and compared it to the Pompeian brand we have at home. She said it was a noticeable difference in taste
These olive oils have met the extra-virgin standards:
Corto Olive Can sometimes be purchased at Cosco. the other good oil at Cosco is Costco Kirkland Toscano
Cobran Estate
California Olive Ranch
Kirkland Organic
Lucero (Ascolano)
McEvoy Ranch Organic
Ottavio and Omaggio good oils at reasonable prices.
Whole Foods California 365
These olive oils failed to meet the extra virgin olive oil standards, according to this study:
Bertolli
Carapelli
Colavita
Star
Pompeian Eat Grown Local also reports:
Filippo Berio
Mazzola
Mezzetta
Newman’s Own
Safeway
Whole Foods
its a big deal to us because we use it almost exclusively when we cook at home

Same here. What are they using in lieu of olive oil?

according to 60 minutes the really bad ones use sunflower oil with a few drops of chlorophyll to make it look like olive oil,
others are blended with older oils that are sanitized to hide odor or taste.
That report was an eye opener - not just on olive oil but on mafia controlled food industries - wine and olive oil are about the only products they delved into that hit our shelves in the U.S. though
but in Italy, - you have no idea what you are getting.

trying to find an "approved" olive oil. Only 1 brand out of that whole row of brands was on the approved list. Several were on the fake list
