In light of SEC Media days, let's return this thread to its original purpose. I'm sure someone has some serious sandbagging to do.

It's not sandbagging. It's simple purveying of truth.

Paul Finebaum had better hire someone to start his car and sample his food after brooking the ire of Saban.

Here's a good video of the exchange. It sounds like Finebaum and Saban inhaled helium...

Saban was mad. Rightfully so, IMO. Four kids in a car smoking pot in Louisiana. A gun is under the seat. Two of the kids in the car play football for Alabama. Two do not. Cops arrest the two Bama players and let the other two go.

That was Louisiana justice. Apparently, the DA (who is also known for letting first time non violent offenders off) smelled the shitstorm that the cops' actions would caused and "fixed" things.

I don't know why Saban would be mad, honestly. Neither of his players is being charged even though they were smoking weed and a stolen gun was seen in Jones' lap. Could've been a possible 5-yr sentence from what I read, if convicted.

Tyler Smith was Bruce Pearl's best player at UT and on the eve of a big home game (Kansas) he and 3 other guys got busted for pot in the car and an unregistered gun under the seat. Smith got permanently kicked off the team - immediately - because of the misdemeanor charge of illegal possession of a firearm (1st offense, so he only got 2 years probation). Tyler and Bruce's fortunes both took a turn for the worse after that traffic stop.

The pot they found on the floorboard was the weight of a paperclip. For the officer to book two and free two is suspicious. The other two who were set free are allegedly LSU players. That hasn't been confirmed, though, and probably never will.

This DA (who has been elected to 30 consecutive years - a record in Louisiana) and has a long history of cutting people loose for non-violent first offenses. This isn't his first time to do something like this even without the peculiarities. And I don't think he wanted to draw light to why two were charged and two were sent on their way.

Nonetheless, the long arm of Saban and the REC worked its magic in this. The fact that Saban controls the Louisiana judicial system is awesome.

The gun trumps the pot. No charges for possession of a stolen gun? That's great news for the players..and their coach.

Not aware of any of that. My take is Saban shouldn't rub people's/cops nose in it since, after all, the charges were dropped. Many see it as bad form. Your own mileage may vary. heh

The possession of the stolen gun was not determined. It was under the seat. The second gun was allegedly in Jones' lap, at least that's what the police say.

Rival fans will think its poor form. Saban's team and fans will see it as defending his players and bringing light to the fishy circumstances that transpired with the cops and the four guys in that car.

Yes, as always, your mileage may vary. Consider the Peyton sexual harrassment thing. The payoff does not tarnish Peyton's fans' opinion of him, and they see the action by Naughright as trumped up, false, fishy, or...well, just choose your discounting description; while many rivals often think Manning got away with sexual harrassment (or more).

In the end, the DA in Louisiana elected to not prosecute. There is probably a reason for that. Partly, I'm sure, due to his stance on non violent first offenses. I tend to believe that irregularities in the arrest further convinced him to not charge them.

The reason is one representative of the REC sat down with that judge and placed a "no prosecution" order on the table while a second representative of the REC held a gun to his head. REC representative #1 assured him that either his signature or his brains would be on that "no prosecute" order.

You know I've been a member of the REC for as long as you've known me. Do I strike you as the type that would do something like that.

Yes. You are skilled with pistols.

And with your medical background, you can slip a fatal poison into Finebaum's beer that would not show up in a standard autopsy.

But then again, maybe you're more of a Tom Hagin than a Luca Brazzi in the REC Family.
