State governors were in control. Outside Trump telling Chinese people that they are NOT welcome (and they weren't) covid was entirely a state issue. That is why states has such dramatic differences in their death rates. Lookie here

The party leading polling in Germany right now is a far right party, not a right of center party. This is also a state election and not a federal election. Federal elections are next year.
