We will always be free. Unless we elect Romney.

my mother-n-laws 5th husband is quite the catch - two lake houses in Birmingham and just sold off his business for serious money. Drives a 911 turbo too.
I expect him to be around a long time - at least a year. They've been on us to go visit them at the lake. I came up with an excuse not to.

another gun stat
The most recent FBI figures show just 358 of the 8,775 murders by firearm in 2010 involved rifles of any type (including assault rifles). By comparison, 745 people were beaten to death with only hands that year

I blame illegal aliens. They're watering down our Anglo-Saxon culture by using los manos instead of pistoles for their murders.

I think they would ask why are the police concerned about Baptists? Are they afraid that a flash mob of street preaching may break out?

honestly I don't know. The majority of gun related deaths in America are suicides. If we set that aside, then 40% of gun related deaths are homicides.
Those people with the highest probability of being shot are not random victims but actually acquaintances (family ,friend, lover) of a convicted felon. The city of Chicago has roughly a 73% rate of murderers using handguns with having prior felony convictions. That number would be actually higher if they included juveniles committing murder. Philadelphia's rate is actually higher. DC's is in that same area.
So as I've been saying, to make guns harder for law abiding citizens to obtain isn't the answer. And the idea that Joe Law Abiding citizen suddenly grabs a gun and starts a shooting rampage is false as well.
What the statistic bear out is that if you are going to be a gun related homicide victim, its a very good chance are you're going to be in the 18% of the country's population that lives in the most populated cities, you're going to know your assailant (or at a minimum be in proximity of someone you know that knows the assailant), and he is going to have at least one felony conviction. 42% of all homicides occur in this population zone (68 counties in all) with 81% of the defendants accused of the crime having at least one arrest.
The idea that you have a high or even moderate probability of being fatally shot by an assailant in a random act of violence just doesn't have enough data, IMO, to mandate any serious discussion about limiting guns from the general public.
Eliminating handguns from felons walking the streets would appear to be priority #1 in reducing gun violence in this country. That and tell people to avoid hanging out with them.

those stats are why the Aurora shooter is getting so much press - because he doesn't fit into any of those categories so it scares the shit out of people.

"It is a bit funny we're talking about this. The wife of one of my associates is big in MADD."
Technically drunk driving shouldn't be illegal, but nobody is going to go for that. But as long as you don't harm anyone else, they shouldn't be able to arrest you b/c there's "more of a chance" that you'll harm someone. If you're going by that standard, make it illegal to drink any amount and drive...
"cheap and widely available heroin is keeping meth from making a comeback in our area"
Needless to say, heroin and meth should definitely not be illegal...

I know heroin is keeping our court dockets full where I live. There is definitely job security in the criminal justice system as long as there is a war on drugs
