I'm not sure with all the technology and satellites why you would need a surveillance balloon.

If you have HBO/HBOMax, watch this week’s Real Time. Bill Maher had Malcom Nance on after the monologue and Nance’s theory is that the balloons are proof that China’s satellites aren’t as advanced as our satellites, that the balloon was used to attempt to make up for that and that we actually turned this to our advantage by learning about China’s systems.

I think this is true. I think that China is way behind us from a technology standpoint and the balloons may very well be an attempt to make up for that.

China is great at doing well-formed, repetitive, work. And as long as Apple (or any technical manufacturing company) provides a very linear model to follow, China can master it and master it quickly. But creating something new or doing something new (no model to follow?) Not so much. And I still contend the problem here is the communism.
