so I just called up Time Warner to get high speed internet with them and they informed me I owed them $389 from 17 years ago
so I had my wife call them and order it.

honestly I have no idea
We were living in an apartment back then and I'm fairly certain I didn't sign up for any contract.
For that kind of money I can only guess that they think I didn't return some equipment.
They couldn't tell me why I owed them the money, only that I did owe them the money.

Ecat - If that is on your credit report, it is up to them to prove what you owe for. You can dispute that to get it off the books. Also, dispute it with them and make them prove it to you. If they can't, demand they remove it. That is horseshit.

I don't think its on my credit report, I've seen it several times over the years. I think its in their system.
I'm more bothered that they have a database of my SSN than I am they say I owe them money

In hopes of pissing off some people to add a little spice to the boards. I'm contemplating adding a twitter feed showing info related to the forum content.
See early test
For example, if I did it for this forum, it would show college basketball related tweets.
