its too late now
but I gotta agree with Rat on this.
A $13K ring is definitely a wait until we are together 10 years kinda thing - at least in my tax bracket

Definitely. If Mrs. DS has kids and then starts doing zumba and taking skinny fiber, she needs to have it in writing that he will still love her if she's no longer a lard-ass

I guess that's why your wife signed a similar agreement, she knew the day would never come when it would have to be enforced...

Fwiw, he didn't say he paid 13, he said "valued at" 13. The spread between what I paid my jeweler in the Diamond District vs what it was appraised was large (45% diference). It also helped that I came in there and paid it all in 100s, so my overall cost was even lower. I know Herman did not claim that sale at its full value.
(now that re-read it, DS paid nothing. His mom just gave him a stone to use. So, considering that, if he ever decides in the future that he wants out he better be prepared to do a Gilbert Arenas and get a replica made and swap out the expensive ring for the cheaper one. Gilbert is a genius who can never do anything wrong in my book after that switcheroo)

Remember: Love lasts for two weeks then you have to eat. You can only live off of love for so long before life intervenes

"Love lasts for two weeks then you have to eat."
With DS and his bride it's probably more like two minutes...

what I'm most amazed at at this point is how DS has not told every one of us to fuck off

Man, it seems like yesterday that DS came romping in here like a puppy, a college undergrad who somehow found time in his busy schedule of fraternity parties and fatty fucking to come hang out with embittered middle aged men who were nostalgic for the very life he was in the middle of living. And now he's all growed up. We saw him thru college graduation and then law school and the start of his career, and now he's fixing to tie the knot. He's turned into us. Somebody cue up "Cat's in the Cradle"...

I thought of that too, hedge. I remember when DS was a wide-eyed undergrad at UNC with a 1.5 gpa (or whatever).
Now, he's all grown up.

He just needs to gaze harder at the mother - that's what his bride is going to look like in 20-25 years.
Hope she's hot.

DS has the background and training of Judge Schmales but the soul of Rodney Dangerfield...

My wife is not going to age like my MIL. My MIL is not aging poorly, but it is obvious that my wife's genes are tilted toward my FIL's side. They all were track athletes growing up and my wife's aunts are all in good shape without doing too much of anything, as far as exercise and diet. My MIL is not in "Big Mama" territory, but she is definitely larger than she needs to be. My wife eats what she wants and puts on no belly fat, even after 2 kids. I'm the one that hits the gym to keep my boyish figure. My wife just sleeps and eats crappy food with no external consequence.
I just hope my daughter doesn't get my MIL's metabolism and my wife's activity habits.

FIL--died five years ago, and she hadn't spoken to him in the twelve years prior to that--played minor league ball for the Giants. So, I am hoping for some of those genes. Her half brother (dad popped him out of his nineteen year old mistress who was a senior when fiance was a junior) is a stud freshman pitcher at ECU. So, I am hoping for those genes. However, if she ages like her mom, I will be pleased.
Because the diamond was free, I spent close to 5k on the setting, which appraised at 11k. She is happy with the ensemble to say the least.
Living by a decent Donald Ross course is nice. Hell, I even find myself growing more conservative on economic issues.
