You have a thing for sixty-nine--soon to be seventy--year old widows?

She drinks Ballantyne's when she is buying, but when she shows up at your house, she'll have no problem helping herself to your Glenlivet 15 year old and Dalwhinnie. Trust me.

so I've been doing this event for over 10 years and this is the first time I've ever been presented with the numbers.

Turns out that the mantra "we do it on the cheap" in regards to the per person cost has been a lie - like $1K more than what they've been telling people we spend on each attendee. That is a $1m lie.

Secondly, the dude that does the negotiating just shit his pants when I put the numbers in a spreadsheet and then scheduled a meeting with the V.P. to go over the costs by line item on what to cut.

He's sent me 3 emails in the past two days asking me to reconcile my numbers with his and I keep telling him is an Excel spreadsheet - I can't make math errors with the numbers.

Now he's trying to pick it apart and he can't do it. Its pretty clear by his tone he doesn't want a spotlight on his budget.

We have almost a 1/4 of a million dollars designated for "production costs". That's more insane than the bar bill.

If he is in your Cary office (if your employer is who I think it is, they have a massive office there), you need to put him in touch with me so that I can refer him to some friends of mine who do federal white color defense.

actually at this point these numbers are so big, that I'm not certain that I should press too hard because the next beneficiary from this after the negotiator is my boss.

I might get Patrick Swayze'd and end up a Ghost.

Oh, this should be good.

Does your company not do audits and third-party checks on discretionary spending like this?

I'm not sure of the detail. We have about 4 events like this every year and this is one of the cheap one - another comparable event is around $5m for the sales team.

So I doubt auditing gets to worked up about our line item costs.

Tread lightly, bruh. When the numbers look that crazy, then the trough is usually being frequented by more than one horse. Play as country dumb as you can and wait for the upper management dudes to lose their cool before you start saying that things look fishy. Just show the numbers.
