"“I just want you to know that we are working on it,” Barack Obama reportedly told Sarah Brady regarding gun control. “We have to go through a few processes, but under the radar.”

This interesting bit of news was reported in an April 11, 2011 Washington Post Lifestyle section story about Obama’s gun-control and regulatory policy wonk Steve Croley. Toward the end of the article the writer, Jason Horowitz, mentions a March 30 meeting between Jim and Sarah Brady and White House Press Secretary Jay Carney during which the President “dropped in.”

Horowitz quotes Sarah Brady relating how President Obama gave his personal assurance that he and his administration were working hard on a gun-control agenda. Brady reported that Obama then told them about advancing the agenda “under the radar.”"
The fact they thought this was a good idea is very whacked. I mean they really thought they could sell the prospect that Mexican violence was the result of lax gun control laws in U.S.?
well - I think it was one approach of many. Presenting a concept where our gun laws are so lax that Mexicans can cross the border and purchase weapons to stock a private army that fuels violence along the border and keeps Americans in fear of it spilling over onto American soil would win over many ambivalent folks who may support the right to own a shotgun but question where an assault rifle fits into the whole right to bear arms

"nobody outside the Marines or Army needs to be able to fire 50 or 100 shots at a time; a limit of five or eight rounds per clip is more than adequate."

the author misses the point. Police or Military have nothing to fear from a law abiding citizen with a 50 or 100 round clip.

However the unarmed people have to fear the Police and Military for having 50 to 100 round clips.

Before 1965 and LBJ's Great Infernal Society, single moms were not paid money by government to raise their children.
I don't think you are quite correct on this point.

AFDC started in the 1930's under the Social Security Act. It ended in 1996 under Bill Clinton.

Clearly, you don't know what suffering is. This is BPD.

Hedge, you said you spent a little time in jail and had some problems with drugs, right? You think you've had it bad? Imagine the Hell on Earth that it must have been for Bobby Jr being married to this woman? If a man did even a fraction of the things Mary Richardson did, he would have been sent to jail for 20 years. Of that, I have no doubt. And even though she was wrought with evil, far too many feminists groups (pretty much all of them) are blaming Bobby for Mary's suicide.

Because we here in the United States are a gallant but also emasculated society, we protect and also excuse women for their insane behavior. As a gender, we hold them to a lower standard.

Global deleveraging scorecard—US takes the lead

Americans steadily increased their debt levels for a good six decades, but it wasn’t until the turn of the millennium that the ratio of household debt to income really soared. Yet by the second quarter of 2011, three years after the start of the global economic crisis, the US ratio had fallen 11 percent from its peak. At the current rate of deleveraging, it would return to trend as of mid-2013—a conclusion buttressed by a comparison between US households today and those of Sweden and Finland during the 1990s, when the two Scandinavian countries endured similar banking crises, recessions, and deleveraging episodes. In both, the ratio of household debt to income fell by roughly 30 percent from its peak. As the exhibit below shows, the United States has been closely tracking the Swedish experience, while households in Spain and the United Kingdom have only just begun to deleverage.

To delever like we have and still squeeze incremental growth quarter after quarter is actually impressive.
