The people going there will be in their 60 and 70s
as Americans realize retirement in America is too costly, they are going to take their social security checks and move to countries like the Philippines.
They'll be looking for $15 orthopedic shoes, not hookers.

Logan already has done a cost analysis on medical treatment there as opposed to here and he's discovered that for the same price as you pay here for, say, a hernia operation, you can get equitable care and a tropical vacation (including teenaged hookers) in the Philippines.

If we want to save the quality of our schools and our neighborhoods - long established communities are going to have to come to terms with seniors not carrying the bill in terms of property tax. There is no value in a senior citizen living in their house they paid $35K for in 1974 and expecting them to carry the tax burden as if they were 40 years old and buying that same house for $270K today.
I would push for eliminating or greatly reducing the tax burden that Seniors face in local communities - because right now all they do is vote no on planned improvements or cost increases so local public works, schools, etc - and they are such a huge voting block, only to get bigger, that they are going to drag communities down with them.
At the same time, you don't want these people moving out - just because they've been priced out of the community they have lived in for the past 30 years.

In Texas your school taxes basically get frozen so that they never go up once you turn 65.

that's a good start but that doesn't take into account your income will probably drop once you retire

Texas has no income tax. Its based on property taxes. Basically in the year you turn 65, your school taxes on your home are frozen from future increases. If you move, your new frozen level is based on the percentage taxable of your old home. (so if you move and you were paying 50% tax on your old house, you now pay 50% tax on your new house so it will be more tax if you moved to a more expensive house and less if you moved to a cheaper house).
When I bought my condo, I paid like $600 in taxes in the first year (the old owner's over-65 tax) and the next year (my first year of owning it on 1/1) it was more like $3000 with only a slight increase in the appraised value.
