Pre-election - Shut Guantanimo, stop torture, public trials only, repeal Patriot act, OBL not important...

Post-election/execution - Thanks for continuing previous admins policies...

There is no downside to torture. Even if the intel you get is off...you still tortured the fuck out of a terrorist. And that is cool.

It's about understanding what is actually being said.

Look at the last paragraph.
This is a smart line of questioning, but what does it confirm? We know that Gitmo detainees and KSM were among the sources who, at some points, produced information useful to the bin Laden hunt. But what we don't know -- what has actually been denied -- is that the information that led directly to OBL was obtained from enhanced interrogation techniques. We actually know it was chased down by other means. This is why Panetta says "whether we would have gotten the same information through other approaches I think is always gonna be an open question."

Waterboarding was tried, Bin Ladin died.

Waterboarding was backed, Bin Ladin got whacked.

We boarded with water, Osama got slaughtered.

I guess owlman hasn't heard of the concept of someone being broken? Ummm when they don't talk until enhanced techniques are used and then start squaking that is called being broken. Once broken you don't have to break them again. Once broken people sing like a canary. Whether the info was gleaned 5 seconds or 5 months of being broken it was the act of being broken that led to it.

Is every word a fact? Of course not. Was every word a lie? Of course not. Of course you can then use what you have gotten to interrogate other prisoners. So we hear from ksm that this couriers nickname is blah blah. Then that guys reaction/response tells you a huge amount and the fact that ksm broke may just lead to this and other guys breaking without the need of enhanced techniques because if ksm broke they know they don't stand a chance.

Besides no physical harm occurs during waterboarding anyway. He'll we do it to our own troops in training.

LOL. I see you don't let facts get in the way of a false belief. Let's see. Pre-election shut Guantanimo - didn't do. Stop -torture, absolutely against (he just didn't prosecute for it -- yet); public trials, some but same as Guantanimo; repeal Patriot Act - he voted to renew it with greater supervision in 2005; OBL not important? That was Bush (surely, if you've watched any station other than Fox, you've seen the Bush tape). Bush took his eyes off of OBL, put it on Iraq and Saddam Hussein and said essentially hd didn't care about OBL. Obama said he would put more emphasis on Afghanistan, specificallyl directed Panetta to put a plan in place to find OBL and said in a debate with John McCain that it was one of our greatest priorities and that if he had the right intelligence, he would go in without telling Pakistan and get OBL (something McCain at the time said was the wrong thing to do).

The last paragraph is the editorial spin. Panetta's quotes stand on their own.

puter,

Anyone who says torture (or even "enhanced interrogation techniques") don't work is simply denying reality. Of course it works. And, per Panetta, it seems to have yielded some very useful results in this case.

Just like it was in the Clinton WH, Panetta, in the current WH, seems to be the only adult present.

I quote the head of the CIA. You quote a liberal author's feeble attempt to explain away Panetta's admission...

Again, from the article:

WILLIAMS: Turned around the other way, are you denying that waterboarding was, in part, among the tactics used to extract the intelligence that led to this successful mission?

PANETTA: No, I think some of the detainees clearly were, you know, they used these enhanced interrogation techniques against some of these detainees. But I'm also saying that, you know, the debate about whether-- whether we would have gotten the same information through other approaches I think is always gonna be an open question.

WILLIAMS: So finer point, one final time, enhanced interrogation techniques -- which has always been kind of a handy euphemism in these post-9/11 years -- that --

PANETTA: Right.

WILLIAMS: -- includes water boarding?

PANETTA: That's correct.
