They finally manage to beat an SEC team...and they have to wipe it off the books because it turns out they had to cheat to do it?

I think that's about the worst thing I've ever heard.

Well, the Texas A&M to the SEC rumors are spreading like wildfire again...I figure we'll have some resolution in about a week and a half when the BoR meets on the 22nd.

Gene Stallings will lead the way.

I am skeptical that it's going to happen, just like I was last year, but just for shits and grins...if A&M is added, there would have to be another school coming along to keep it at an even number. I don't see the SEC going to just 13.

staying at 13 members doesn't seem possible for divisional play. I've seen some people mention VaTech, which would absolutely make 'Tone's day.

where ever the teams come from if expansion does happen, you'll be able to follow the dollar signs into new TV markets. VaTech would be a solid team and bring a new market. aTm also. Perhaps one of the Tobacco Road schools. Clemson wouldn't change the market very much. FSU would give us easily 2/3 of the Florida market. it will be interesting to see if anything happens. I just think we shouldn't worry too much about expansion. Our conference schedules are tough enough as it is, and I've really enjoyed seeing Bama play 1 high profile team over the past few seasons from a different conference.

I must be turning into a crumudgeon because I hate the idea of expansion. Traditions are what makes college football great. Of course I didn't complain about the additions of Arkansas and South Carolina to get us all the SECCG, so I am actually full of shit and hope we get aTm and VT or Louisville.

I would definitely be ambivalent, given my schools of matriculation. If it's going to happen, VT would be a logical counterbalance because of location and, more relevantly, television market share. New and increased numbers of TV sets is what is going to drive any expansion. If those were the two schools, then VT to the East and A&M to the West would make perfect sense.

Yeah, Tone would short-circuit and give birth to a litter of possum, I think, if VT were to come to the SEC.

Something to note: The Pac-12 is still playing a 9-game conference slate just as they did prior to expanding. I wonder if the SEC would go to that with a 14-team league. Play each team in your division (6) plus 3 of 7 from the opposite division, with one being permanent. Pairing A&M with VT as permanent opponents would also make sense, as it would not disrupt any of the other cross-divisional permanent opponents. I think Arkansas and South Carolina were paired like that in the last expansion.

More mental gymnastics to kill time until the season starts.

SEC isn't looking at UNC/Duke/Wake.

Expansion is all about football.

So, that's why Slive has talked about adding us in the past and is rumored to still want us?

We said "Thanks, but no thanks" last year when quiet feelers were sent out. I'd love the SEC, but the academic element at Carolina won't allow it. Plus, there is the nostalgic ties to the ACC. If the ACC implodes, they might join the Big 10 if the Big 10 comes calling, which is a possibility.

I doubt the SEC would take Wake or Dook, but Carolina offers a lot.

<Insert SC/Carolina joke here>
