It's like that 911 call from a guy trapped in a phone booth by a deer. Calling for a bambulance.

Minor damage thankfully. A bit of water and a broken window upstairs. The storm surge was crazy.

Airbnb - London hotels are either kind of shitty or very expensive. Or in a lot of cases, both.

The main thing is near a Tube stop. Cletus is right in that there are many that are expensive, and many of the moderately priced ones are pretty bad. I usually stay at a Hilton property so I can use points if I don't book on Priceline. I like West, near Hyde Park. I used to book the Thistle Hotel at Lancaster Gate, but I believe it has a new name. I also like the Covent Gardens area (avoid The Strand Palace).
Is this your first trip to London? If it's a while before you travel, see if you can get a pass to do do the Ceremony of the Keys at the Tower, it's free and very cool. Also, climbing to the top of the Big Ben clock tower is cool, too. You have to get a pass in advance there, as well.

This trip will be at the beginning of January 2018, so it's a long ways off and yes it will be my first trip there.

one time I went I stayed in hotel that used to be a monastery in the 1600s.
Lousy choice really - drafty and cold and predated the p-trap in modern plumbing.

Ceremony of the Keys (free, cool). Walking around at night and locking up the Tower, then drinking afterwards with Yeoman Warders. You're early enough to get the passes.
Westminster
British Museum
Parliament- get a pass for Prime Minister's Questions. Very cool.
Portobello Road for "souvenirs". Bought a 100+ year old cricket bat signed by a local London team in 1898.
The London Eye is fun for 2 minutes. Then quickly gets old.
I think the Thames cruises are very meh.
Tate Modern
Do Tea at a nice place (Savoy).
Harrad's is worth a walk around
Right outside of London...
Windsor
Dover/Canterbury
