Re: Tennessee Volunteers
Eddie Lacy was coming to UT, could not get in thanks to Cheek and the LBM crowd and now starting for Bama in the NC game (per Brent Hubbs).
We could have used him. Thanks english department.

Linda Bensel Myers has been gone from UTK for 11 years, BOJ. She moved to Denver and has been working out. I think I saw a recent pic of her...

Re: Tennessee Volunteers
Tick, I was meaning the English department in general, booger eater just happens to be the head of that snake right now. The problems of having the highest entrance standards for athletes in the SEC started before Cheek, booger eater just hasn't done anything to make it better and in fact may have made it worse. Actually I know he has harmed the perception of UT because he was caught on camera intentionally eating a booger and that was shown multiple times on YouTube etc.
Look I don't have a problem having good standards, but when a kid can get into Alabama (who has a higher academic standing than UT) but can't get into UT because he doesn't make the "special cut" for athletes something is wrong.
We need an even playing field when it comes to admitting athletes, that is one example, there are others (even one recently that couldn't get into UT and went to Vandy since Franklin came along and changed academic requirements for Vandy to be more like the rest of the SEC). That's a problem.
Nobody is asking for anything except to line up more with the other SEC programs when it comes to athletes, I mean heck it's like they are TRYING to kill football when they have a higher admission standard for the football players than they do for the general student body. I guess you are glad to see CP go this year too due to the rediculous requirements set forth for athletes at UT. That is something that is scheduled to change but Cheek should have ALREADY changed it before it cost us a few coaching hires and CP.

Re: Tennessee Volunteers
You're a one-man gang with this "academics killed UT football." It's like you filtered out the Fulmer Cup, Randy Sanders, Jimmy Ray Stephens, the Fulmer Cup, Dave Clawson, and that other thing, oh yeah, the Fulmer Fucking Cup. Somehow we managed to recruit street thugs aplenty with our "crushing" academic restrictions - Travis Henry still can't spell his name, btw. Yeah, your guru Doug Matthews will say it was academic requirements that was Fulmer's undoing, not lazy recruiting or the aforementioned Mssrs. Sanders and Clawson. That is Matthews one note...that he says so eloquently with his mush-mouth drawl - "hit pains me how the administration pin-heads let my Lord and Saviour Phillip Fulmer down." Jesus.
But the beauty of it all is how you give a pass to Mike Radar O'-Fucking Reilly Hamilton, Master of the BuyOut (6 million here, 3 million there, 5 million again, and then 1.5 mil to himself) who became the hundered million dollar Bob the Builder in the face of a major economic downturn. The guy who hired one losing coach and followed that disaster by hiring another losing coach which became a bigger disaster. Maybe you're the wrong person to ask this question, since you are down on learnin' and such, by why would you hire a middling coach out of La Tech for 2 million a year yet give him a 5 million dollar buyout? Seems like there is some serious incentive to fail if you ask me...or ask all of the dozens of East TN high school coaches who said they mysteriously never heard from Dooley the whole time he'd been here? Or how a 4 star WR from Marietta, a son of a former UT player, never got a call from DD's staff ?(luckily Butch just turned him to us and away from Clemson).
Yeah, Hamilton begat Kiffin and that whole mess (that included ncaa violations and kiffin-isms that we'll be living down for awhile), which begat Dooley and that whole mess (and weird-ending crushing losses and Sunseri's defense and dooley-isms that we will NEVER live down, hygienically speaking).
But you can't fathom it. Somebody with coach or AD in their title can't be to blame. The Fulmer Cup must be a myth, right? It HAS to be some academic pinhead somewhere, somehow - that is to blame. Hey, did you hear our academic standards are higher than Vanderbilt's?

Re: Tennessee Volunteers
Btw BOJ, you never explained how Omari Phillips managed to get on our roster last August after being denied academic admission to Florida.
And since you brought up CP - how DID Patterson get into our program with a 6 on his ACT and still missing the core courses that put him in junior college in the first place? How did he manage to make it to the end of the semester without doing one ounce of schoolwork? How did that happen at the new Stanford of the South? Inquiring minds..

Re: Tennessee Volunteers
Incorrect. Unless your dog has a 27 ACT and a HS gpa greater than 3.3. Those are indeed stiff requirements for ordinary incoming freshmen...UT is seeking to become one of the top 25 research universities in the country.Jungle Rat wrote:Why not? It looks like my dog could get into UT.
Now from what I'm able to discern football-wise, your dog could get in UT with a 6-10 ACT and a gpa of 1.0+ assuming he can run a 4.5 forty and has good paws. Maybe he could help raise the team APR.

Maybe if they do enough research they'll discover a way to field a competitive football team again...
