There will be some sucking going on at our house tonight, the MIF get back from 2 weeks in Costa Rica today. I didn't leave the couch except to refill my drink or to go to the bathroom (and to go play golf a few times). I think I only went upstairs twice. Best vacation I've had in awhile...

My wife and daughter are visiting relatives in Texas. The boy is working so I built an end table to fill in a space next to our couch. Probably the first time this year I've had a saturday to myself and got to do whatever I wanted. I don't get enough of those

Yeah, we went to the beach for the 4th, on top of the general nightmare of every motherfucker in the state (it seemed) being down there, the MIF's kids both brought their boyfriends (and one of them brought his fucking dog) as well as another friend and her boyfriend. Every time I turned around they were wanting to go out on the boat or go out to eat or some shit. That was not a vacation for me. I just wanted to sit on the porch with a cold drink, look at the water and read and maybe go swimming a couple of times just so I could pretend like I got some exercise, and maybe watch a little bit of Wimbledon. I would almost rather be at work than go thru that shit again...

the uniform of the summer suburban morning walker.

I saw 3 old men out walking this morning, all with white baggy t-shirts and blue shorts.

Then I realized I was wearing the same thing.

ugh

At least none of you are cursed with going to Myrtle Fucking Beach twice or so per month (except during football season...she knows not to fuck with me during football season). If I could go back 95 years and beat the fuck out of her great-grandfather to the point that he decided to develop houses after he returned from WWI somewhere other than Myrtle Beach, I would. Hell, living in Fayetteville isn't bad, but Myrtle Beach sucks dick (well, when you're with your wife and go constantly. The occasional golf trip with your boys and jaunts to the Master's Club titty bar are enjoyable...).
I proudly took AFAM 040 at Carolina.

It took less time than I thought for DS's marriage to devolve to the point where he was using phrases like "she knows not to fuck with me"...

I've been wanting to do a train trip for awhile. I think I'm seriously over romanticizing it - my mom did the same trip 3 years ago and said it was just a greyhound bus on rails. She went during the summer.

At any rate, I'm thinking about driving over to Champaign, IL, after Xmas, my wife and I take the train to New Orleans 11:00pm to 3:00pm, stay down there for a couple of days and then take the train back on New Years eve. Champaign is the closest Amtrak station to our house for New Orleans/Chicago Route.

I wonder if the New Orleans to Chicago Amtrak is a party on New Years eve or if the train steward just walks thru with a little confetti popper at midnight and everyone goes back to sleep?

The train trip is kind of a bucket list thing for me.

Yeah. With all the stops, it takes forever.
