I'm certain this place has been reviewed, at least at a cursory level by someone or bot program in the government.

The Florida St. board is too active for it not to have been.

Those who want to maintain a self-serving political narrative will view this (or not) and simply move on shouting the same platitudes. However, for those that are interested, the link may help some understand why making comparisons of the Greek debt situation to the US debt situation is, what I lovingly like to call, "comparing apples to airplanes."

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-05-2 ... nsive.html

We absolutely need to get a handle on our debt issue, but the growth - even though tepid - the US has experienced over the past 20 something (30?) quarters, has been astounding, considering the broader global market. This mixture of government propping, with our general delevering, is delivering like a motherfucker. It is (as hedge fund diety Ray Diallo calls it) beautiful.

I don't know if it'll hold through the 4th quarter, as the new debt ceiling fight and the June Greek elections could make things interesting, but - to date - this has been a well played soft landing for a SERIOUSLY fucked up economy.

I guess you don't have to be beautiful, just better looking than the other. Everything is hunky dorey in debt land until China needs to draw on the resources to fund their own impending demographic nightmare. I agree the debt needs to get handled. Not abruptly, but eventually in the next 5-10 years. To me, the Ryan plan, which is alot like the Debt Commission's findings, is not abrupt like the media protrays. On the other hand, Oprama's latest budget proposal for the next 10 years does not even come close to closing the deficit gap, even with the tax increases. The best year is a $750 Billion deficit. That is not handling the debt issue...

The President's (odd your insistence on disrespecting his name...I'm just a different dude, I guess) budget means nothing. It's never getting passed. It's no more worthy of scrutiny than Simpson Bowles. They are both just stuff thrown out without any legislative legs at all.

What? Never a "slick willie" or "tricky dick" reference? Never called George Bush an imbecile? I certainly have...

Not every time. I didn't even "Dubya" it every time...and he liked that nickname.

I'm too young to have referenced Nixon in a contemporary setting. I'm simply proud I got the "Tricky Dick" reference...and did not confuse it with some porntube or brazzers channel.

Well, limit their exposure to the Pastor Bobs of the world and you're off to a good start. Those people will never have you or your kid's best interests in mind.

Occasionally a shrub, maybe once Bush Light, but usually, it was Bush Jr. or just Bush.

Won't happen. What happens to China if the U.S defaults (let alone the rest of the world)? The fact is the biggest worry in the world is not that we can't service our debt that there are people coming to power who won't service are debt. As for the Ryan plan, won't get to any solution without a balanced approach, cuts and revenues. Incidentally, Romney's plan according to independent examiners, will lead to a higher debt than under Obama. He already has said that he'll get the unemployment rate down to 6 % in 4 years. CBO estimates of unemployment rate currently in 4 years?

Yep 6%.

We have a longterm deficit problem. We need a longterm solution to get rid of the deficit and to handle not eliminate the debt. Raise the retirement age for medicare and Social Security to 70 (not 75) but do that over 20 years. Taxes will have to go up but staggered over time, wait until the economy gets better for those income groups. Plan on increases in medicare until baby boomers die off.

Death panels only for athletes that become broke after they retire. Get rid of the death penalty (much less cost effective than life) and change life without parole to life until an invalid. Increase research dollars (knowing that not all research ends up working), move towards wind, solar, natural gas, significant research dollars into nuclear wastes, cut military budget, means test school aid (after my children graduate) etc.
