I'm sure thousands of leases going unused has nothing to do with it.

It's also not just a matter of agreeing to the lease. There has to, you know, actually be oil and gas found there, and the government then also has to issue permits for performing all of that exploration and then later production as well. The lease is just the first step, then you have to invest and put money into it and then every step of the way has to also be approved by additional layers of government through permits. So, first of all, large numbers of leases not yet being put into production is not all that rare, and secondly, even if you have leases available to explore and produce, its still a decision you have to make on whether its worth the risk that you might put all this money into it and then have a hostile administration pull the rug out from under you before anything can come out of it (like say all that money that was spent on something like Keystone XL)

The Biden Administration can get frustrated that no one is jumping on the gas pedal when they put on the green light, but industry caution is largely created by their own perceived hostility in regards to their prior actions. Everybody thinks that a Biden Administration will fuck them over again just as soon as it becomes politically expedient for them to do so.

Wow, you'd think oil companies should be able to make tons of money on public lands completely free of any risk or cost. Goddamn you, Biden...

I mean it could be worse. The European Parliament for instance is going to vote to ban and phase out all fossil fuel cars by 2035. Meanwhile the European Chemicals Agency is simultaneously proposing that lithium (you know... the #1 key component of EVs) products be declared hazardous materials. I'm sure whatever happens will be a miracle of modern governance for them.

EU is mandating that all new mobile phones use USB-C starting in 2024, and it looks like it has forced Apple to move towards eliminating the use of lightening connectors within 2-3 years. So, at least the EU helped with that, albeit years too late.

its the proprietary charging cord (with the flat blade adapter on the end) that charges iPhones

Apple are complete dicks about creating stuff that is only for iphone and not industry standards.

A U.S. appeals court ruled Wednesday that California’s ban on the sale of semiautomatic weapons to adults under 21 is unconstitutional.

In a 2-1 ruling, a panel of the San Francisco-based 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said Wednesday the law violates the 2nd Amendment right to bear arms and a San Diego judge should have blocked what it called “an almost total ban on semiautomatic centerfire rifles” for young adults. “America would not exist without the heroism of the young adults who fought and died in our revolutionary army,” Judge Ryan Nelson wrote. “Today we reaffirm that our Constitution still protects the right that enabled their sacrifice: the right of young adults to keep and bear arms.”

The Firearms Policy Coalition, which brought the case, says the ruling makes them optimistic other age-based gun bans will be overturned
