Yes, that makes sense. They wouldn't spend a lot of money. This makes a lot of sense, actually. Yes, I could see a hardworking immigrant making many more financial sacrifices that the marginal (or even the average) US citizen is simply not willing to make. Guys at the warehouse, half of their take home pay that they got every Friday, they would have drunk it by Monday. So many of them couldn't even understand how I made my tuition payments. I told them that is where my paychecks went and they called me a slave.sardis wrote: ↑Thu Feb 03, 2022 4:03 pmThey don't spend alot of money. They get initial help with healthcare, but their employer then takes over that cost. When I was in Charlotte our church helped these Myanmwar refugees who were persecuted for being Christian. They never go out to eat, not even fast food. They get clothes from goodwill and donations. They don't own a car initially. The employer usually comes in a van and picks them up. So after 4-5 years some of them were out of the Section 8 housing they were put in and had purchased a house and a car on their own. The house is still in marginal neighborhoods, and they sometimes team up with two generations, but to them, they are living the dream.me wrote:They will be able to buy a home in BG in three years. Really? It's that cheap? Its that easy to get a home loan? I had friends that worked with me in a warehouse in Massachusetts for almost 5 years, and they still lived at home with their parents, and could not afford to buy anything. And that was in the late 1980s and early 1990s even. But I digress.

Feminism: Eve eats ALL the apples, gives God the middle finder when He confronts her, and has the serpent serve Adam with an injunction ordering him to both stay away from her AND to provide her food and shelter because he dragged her out of the Garden.

hedge, that skit was funny because it was true.
the further you go back in history, the more racism is not only tolerated, it is accepted. But the further you go back in history, the less sensitivity for racism you have.

This is from Dec 17th. I'll dig deeper when I can to see when they 1st moved here if you want. I've know Natasha since grade school. I think she too was settled somewhere else first and then branched out. She's a good story and a perfect example of people coming over for their kids.

Today, several members of Bowling Green’s sheriff’s department drove to our new Afghan friend’s apartment to introduce themselves and to extend their gratitude to him and his fellow Afghan evacuees who have been helping with the Bowling Green clean up efforts.
Like so many of the Afghan men who’ve been resettled in BG and around the country, these are former military men, many of whom have served overseas.
As I continue to learn more about resettlement, I have been pleasantly surprised to learn about the high level of advocacy and activism for immigrants that comes from former and current members of our military—men and women who’ve worked shoulder to shoulder in the trenches with people like our evacuees and with whom they share a desire for a better world.
There’s much to like about this picture.
The sign of respect from members of the Sheriff’s department in taking their shoes off when entering an Afghan home.
The cup of tea in one of the officer’s hands as a welcome from the Afghans to their visitors.
This is an important moment born of a variety of tough times. It’s also a reminder of the enormous potential for goodness when we choose to look after one another.

Re: Baseball
Reading quotes from the biographer or Ted Turner
He bought the Atlanta Braves for something like $12m (which included the stadium). The deal he agreed to was to pay a couple of million down and then extend the payments of the team out over 10 years.
They previous owners stored up the concessions stand money in the safes at the stadium and never took it out. When they opened the safes there was almost enough money to cover the first year for the braves and each subsequent year. He later laughed at the idea of buying the Braves with the previous owners money

I like the stinky pinky but only up to the first knuckle, I do not want a GD thumb up there--I've told her multiple times and I always catch her when she tries to pull a fast one---it's my butthole for Chrissakes I'm gonna know--so cut out the BS.

I thought Cincinnati was deep in Kentucky. Culturally, anyway. Cincinnati is where country comes to town...

Re: Baseball
you guys should watch the documentary on Netflix called The Battered Bastards of Baseball.
Why they haven't made a movie about this I don't know - it would be a hit
