American Greed is running a story on Boeing 737-Max. Agreed. Boeing should be shut down. For good.

Rat:

95 was a parking lot Friday and I had to get on US 17 outside of Ridgeville. US 17 was stop and go, but it was moving whereas you could see 95 was a parking lot through the trees.. Seeing all of your Yankee brethren at the shitty gas station on the edge of town was hilarious. They were expecting everything to look like Savannah, HHI, Beaufort, etc, and they were in culture shock upon realizing that those places are the exception to the rule in that part of the world.

Hampton County is one county over, and those Murdaughs were lucky. Death was a reprieve from that hell hole.

Heh. You should have just back roaded it all the way to Charleston. Beautiful drive. Drove to Hardeeville this am and just crossing the Sound is magical. 95 is no place to be around here on a weekend afternoon. Learned that every summer.

I think Murdaugh is locked up downtown but not sure. Haven't heard much about lately.

I live a few miles from 95...so heading over to take 17 all the way down to Savannah would be a major hassle, especially when you consider how congested that road is from Wilmington to Savannah. Heck, it would take over an hour just to get through the MB area on 17, to say nothing of the Mt. Pleasant/Charleston congestion and dealing with all of those speed trap towns.

It would be a very scenic drive, much like US 1 is through much of Virginia, but it would take the day do it.

I said TO Charleston. From Savannah I guess. No clue about north of there.

Anyhoo....

Enjoy your Presidents Day off. See ya at work on Election Day.

Mmmm, yeah, I don't see much diplomacy in that speech by Putin. It was all-in justification to his own people on why Ukraine needs to be "dealt with" and far beyond just recognition for separatists.

I do not like the concept of a "hate crime." That feels kind of like "thought-police" to me. What difference does it make WHY I committed a crime when I am committing a crime? What difference does it make WHAT I was thinking when I was committing a crime? Why is it necessary to add that adjective to a noun? A crime is a crime. That is it. That is all it should be. That used to be a cardinal virtue of liberalism, one that I agreed with. It no longer is. And if I was a federal legislator, I would never-ever vote yes to any kind of "hate crime" legislation. And if that costs me my seat in congress, so be it.

That said, all three men have been found guilty of federal hate crime in the Arbury's murder.

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/ah ... -rcna17171

Its Georgia. Why not just find them guilty of murder, stick them in a cell for 40 years or stick a needle in their arm and be done with it? Why add "hate" to a murder conviction?

maybe we should have a love murder prosecution

the idea that you really love someone but you had to murder them anyways

as opposed of you hating someone and murdered them

there has to be a distinction, on top of the 3 degrees of murder and manslaughter that already exist.

That is an interesting point. I always figured that with a "love-murder" prosecution (like, you are putting your grandma to death because she is in so much pain and because you love her, you can't watch it anymore and you want to take the pain away) that with the 3 degrees of murder, the jury (if the thought is giving the defendant 40 years) would likely just say, "not guilty." But I get your point eCat. The defendant IS guilty. I understand your distinction. With a "love murder" prosecution, you can send a mercy-murderer (if such a thing exists) to prison for 3 years (or whatever) and get a guilty verdict from the jury.

Killing myself, to die upon a kiss...

I personally do not give a fuck if Russia invades Ukraine

however, when the Soviet Union broke up and Ukraine sought independence, they were a serious nuclear power - and they voluntarily gave up their nukes with assurances from both Russia and the U.S. that their sovereignty would be protected. Putin takes over in 2000 as a former KGB hard liner and wants all his post WWII satellite countries back.

I don't know the extent of our commitment and its questionable that we should be held accountable for an agreement that extends back to 1989, but as a country we are kinda on the hook here.

That's the problem with the US and our agreements with nuclear powers or soon to be nuclear powers. We just offer all this stuff in what we think is our best interest to prevent these 3rd rate dictators from having a nuke, and then we have to live with that for 50 years.

Then you also have the issue with China - in part because of our haphazard withdrawal from Afghanistan, China might believe that how we handle the invasion of Ukraine will also be parroted with Taiwan, extending territorial claims in open seas and all kinds of small minded power plays.

What we need to do is figure out a way to get China and Russia going after each other.

Also, why has NATO dragged their feet on Ukraine? They should have been given immediate acceptance after giving up their nukes.

Why has NATO dragged their feet on Ukraine? Perhaps that is because the people who live in NATO nations do not give a fuck if Ukrainians live or die? That would be my guess. The majority (all?) of the NATO nations are largely wealthy, secular, and selfish, and the people that live in them are increasingly secular and selfish only caring about their own personal comforts from cradle to grave.

Perhaps NATO should have been "dissolved" the moment the USSR was "dissolved?" What is the point of protecting Western Europe (putting US cities in peril from nuclear warheads) when the one thing we are "gambling" against via Mutually Assured Destruction no longer exists? The only reason there was NATO was because there was a communist Soviet Union, a Soviet Union that wanted the earth to operate under Marxist economics, and it had nuclear intercontinental ballistic missiles to ENFORCE its will. Well, perhaps Soviet soldiers and US GIs may have shot at each other in Cambodia, Vietnam, or Afghanistan, or wherever, but in the 45 years form 1946 to 1991, they never fired a missile (thank God.) Now, there is just Russia, it is no longer communist, the President of Russia is "supposed-to-be" a Christian, there are more billionaires in Moscow than any other city on the Earth, and of course, the Russians STILL have nuclear intercontinental ballistic missiles. Who knows for sure where they are targetted? (Probably still at us.) So, does NATO only exist to protect Western Europe from Russia?

MAD worked for 45 years. MAD still works 30 years later, NATO or no NATO. The USA is only nation on the earth to have ever used Nuclear Weapons. MAD makes sure that we on the earth keep it that way. And I get it, who cares about Ukraine?

I am not all that concerned about Russia and all their nukes. Yes, they have all the billionaires. But that is only because Russia has 11 time zones and natural resources out the wazoo, resources that were never exploited under communism because (well) they had shitty technology and no real way to use their resources. We know that now, we didn't know that THEN. They will never-EVER-EVER run out of petroleum, natural gas, timber, coal, iron-ore, uranium, wheat, fresh water, anything. Never-ever. There are enough natural resources in those 11 fucking time zones to supply the earth for 1000 human generations. So, the clever, corrupt Russians, who own everything, they are the billionaires by virtue of them owning everything. But we are still talking about a country with now less than 160,000,000 people, a GDP less than the state of New York, with just 1.2 children being born to each woman in those 11 time zones (vastly below replacement level), the hottest Russian/Ukrainian women being "purchased-and-imported" mail-order-bride-style by US, virgin, Big-Tech, 40+ year old, betamale millionaires, with no "game" and no "social skilz", and all the Russian men dying of alcohol psychosis at age 60. That is Russia today. Its also Ukraine.

Russia invading Ukraine? That is just one nation filled with 160,000,000 old and dying childless people invading another nation filled with 40,000,000 old and dying childless people.

In 2002, Pat Buchanan wrote a book called The Death of the West. He mentions this dichotomy between Russia and China. In the book, he says that a land mass of area in Russia from the Urals (basically, the land just barely East of Moscow) all the way to the Soviet Far East/Vladivostok, we are talking about less than 10,000,000 Russians living there. That land mass is more than double the total land mass of all of mainland China. 8 time zones of empty wilderness filled with nothing but natural resources. And China has just over 2,000,000,000 people. Billion. And 1.8 billion of them are crammed into cites within 500 miles of the Pacific Ocean. So you have all that empty space up there in Russia with just ten million living in it (and the populate "spaced out" kind of like the population of the state of Maine) and you have two-fucking-billion people living in China, most of whom are masturbating bachelors because all the girl babies were aborted. Sure, mainland China is huge, but what (other than MAD) prevents disgruntled, horny, angry Chinese bachelors simply "walking-north" and taking the land that no one lives on and is only "owned" by Moscow billionaires who have never lived there?
