I don't begrudge them wanting to be a top 25 institution, but I don't want them to kill football to do it and I especially don't want them acting like enemys of the football team.

As for the links, that's probably because you aren't a member of volquest. It's only 10 bucks a month or something like that. The links work just fine for me. The big one is from Big Orange Sunday or something like that. You could probably find the transcripts on 104.5 but it is basically a recap of one of those shows.

Again tell me why where I got my degrees from matters. Also need to add one institution, Motlow State Community College, AS in Biology was my first degree before I went to UTC.

I have multiple names. I am 'Hacksaw' on the Daiky Kos forum and 'bluetick' on the Briggs & Stratten boards.

I frequent this forum, VolQuest, and VolNation and I am Big Orange Junky on all three.

I also go to the UKC boards (coondogs) but I am Rip there, didn't figgure anybody here would be on coondog boards except me. Then with the PKC boards you register with your real first and last name (It's the Professional Kennel Club, must be a member and have to use your membership number etc so can't use nicknames).

Hey Tick, I just thought of something. They have a free 30 day membership you could join for free and the links would work just fine for you too.

Here's the link to the Hubbs quote about the extra charges to the athletic department from the english department due to out of state tuition instead of in state just in case you do use the free membership.

It's not an extra charge, dope. It IS the charge, period. Why should an out-of-stater get the same rate as an in-stater, athlete or other-wise?

No, the basis of the article is the crippling buyouts that have plagued the UTAD since '07. Counting the 8-10 mil for Dooley & Co., that's about 30 mil. Throw in the ticket tax issue, and it's another 20 mil over that span.

And there was nothing in the article about UT's academics disqualifying any potential student athletes.

And btw, the Thornton Center has been under the office of the Provost since it opened in 2001. It is funded by the UTAD, but it has never "been run" by the AD.

It's an extra charge compared to our competition in the SEC. As part of their scholarship they are charged instate tuition except here they get full charge out of the AD instead of cutting them the same break the other SEC schools do. The article was clear about that.

You have to go to the Lewis/Matthews article to see the academic issues.

Lots of the things were in other articles I just linked the ones easy to find because they were on VQ and I knew who wrote them LOL.

Whoever the guy is on Saturday (I think it's 104.5, not sure don't listen to them much just caught him before the game) was talking to an x player that calls games for the pros, a segment on every week, and they had a discussion about how since Franklin came Vandy has started letting marginal athletes in with a program that was exactly like Dicky had while here while at the same time Tennessee has done away with that program. I think it is Jimmy Hyams but can't remember for sure cause I haven't caught the show much.

The boards were hopping with threads about it and Hubbs etc would come in and answer questions. Hubbs was clear not to get pitchforks out after Cheek (in the article even Matthews was not too hard on Cheek, said nobody should be put in that position but this was put on VQ after lots of the firestorm about his broadcast and other articles etc) and calm the people that were ready to go chase him down after some of the articles. It was also clear that the english department, at least in the opinion of several insiders on the hill, has been a stumbling block for the football team for the last several years and that yes indeed those were some of the issues that led to other coaches saying no to the job and us falling all the way down to Dooley. There were also statements that some of the in state players that we cooled on and other SEC schools including Vandy got were because they were on the bubble and we don't have that program any more and those other schools do and even Hubbs said he thought things had to change between the two departments in order to get a top coach.

So you like the fact that coaches aren't allowed to check on their players, we did away with a program to get marginal candidates into school that have mitigating factors while Vandy started the same program and that we put ourselves at a 3.8 million dollar disadvantage compared to other SEC schools?

Did you catch me adding another school? Still not sure where you are going with that but didn't want to leave one out LOL.

UT has a billion dollar athletic plant including a 103,000 seat football stadium and a 25,000 seat roundball arena, and operates with yearly revenues of 107mil. Screaming about the 'english department' makes you look like a crank. Why don't you go back to pointing fingers at 'POS Kiffin?' You were definitely on the right track there...heh.

Maybe you're forever bent because the eggheads disbanded football at your Johnson City alma mater. Did the english dept make the right call...........................................umm, yeah, probably.

See tick you never did answer the questions.

Are you OK with coaches not being able to keep up with how the kids are doing until they have already flunked the class?

Are you OK with them not allowing exceptions but out other SEC competition allowing them thus putting us at a disadvantage?

Are you OK with them soaking the AD for an extra 3.8 million a year putting us at a disadvantage with the other SEC schools?

Are you OK with the english department having so much control over football that it keeps top coaches from coming here?

I didn't go to undergrad at ETSU and football was already gone before I got there so that has nothing to do with it.

I don't like snobs, especially elite ivory tower snobs that want the money athletics brings into the institution but thumbs their nose at "the unwashed". The LBM crap smelled of that and this does too.

I personally feel our universities are for education for all that can make the grade and pay tuition or earn a scholarship, whether that grade is barely passing or straight A's. I don't mind the money going to the english department when times are good and I was very proud to root for a team that football supported every other sport at the school as well as the university itself. That was great. But from the information I had available to me (from reporters, no "inside sources") I just wasn't getting the vibe that the feeling was mutual and that the snoots don't want to pitch in when athletics needs help and are jealous of the coaches salaries.

Maybe you are right but there sure was lots of emphasis on that BOT meeting and I don't think Matthews, Lewis, Hubbs etc would just make it up.

I just hope they fix it.

And yes POS Scumbag did a ton of damage to Tennessee.

Don't want to get involved w/the discussion here but...whoever said this doesn't know what they're talking about.

every university has those majors where you can put borderline athletes. Vanderbilt, Stanford, Georgia Tech; they all have them

You've really become an Argue-asaurus Rex, haven't you, Tick? First, arguing politics and now ignoring BoJ's correct summation of the English Department in Knoxvegas calling the shots...

Tri-state Area Teams Ignored by Dooley and Staff - timesfreepress.com

http://www.timesfreepress.com/news/2012 ... ley-staff/

In a Times Free Press early-season poll of 37 prep coaches from southeast Tennessee, northwest Georgia and northeast Alabama, 32 gave Dooley and his staff a failing grade for recruiting rapport and overall communication and effectiveness.

"To be honest, a lot of high school coaches in the state felt like Derek came across as arrogant," Fitzgerald added. "We talked about that at coaches meetings around the state for several years, actually, It wasn't just in the Chattanooga area; it was coaches all over the state. Derek is highly intelligent, but it just came off as him proving how smart he is when he talks. He just has no people skills."
