Gruden talks have stalled or broken off completely. The agreement JG's agent and UT reached Tuesday was some kind of sweetner for the agent himself. Even Hyams is clued in finally and he's broadcasting that the talks are off the rails.
Hell, why not stay at espn and get bumped to 5 mil and 'work' short hours just 6 mos out of the year.

Re: Tennessee Volunteers
Looks like Cheek wasn't on board after all and Matthews was right.

Was hoping Cheek had seen the light, but more likely being dragged kicking and screaming.
This brings images in Nessissary Roughness to mind LMBO.

Re: Tennessee Volunteers
"Reached Wednesday and Thursday by e-mail because of the holiday, the faculty were frustrated by the emphasis placed on winning after Chancellor Jimmy Cheek made the decision to give athletics a three-year reprieve in its donations to the university.
"The importance of a winning football program to that effort requires a significant — some would say 'outrageous' — amount of funds for coaching staff. How much is too much?" wrote former Faculty Senate leader and faculty trustee Toby Boulet. "If the salary levels required to be competitive in the SEC are harming the educational mission of the university, the Board of Trustees should weigh in on this.""
What a bunch of goddamn idiots. Where do they think the money is going to come from? Maybe they can just raise ticket prices and concession prices. Morons.

Re: Tennessee Volunteers
Hasn't money from the athletic side fueled several academic programs? Wasn't a library up there built entirely with funding donated from the athletic side during the good years? The academic side needs to be reminded of this. The athletic side does good, they do good as well.

Your article says it was Cheek's decision to forgo the gift from the UTAD. Where in your article do you get the notion that Cheek "wasn't on board?"
Quit gobbling Matthews knob.

2nd home game I've missed since 1966. Efing stomach-intestinal black death.
Hope I live long enough to see who the new coach is.

Re: Tennessee Volunteers
Because it took him this long, knowing the financial situation the athletic department was in. This didn't come about until AFTER multiple meetings "explaining" to him how important athletics are for both sides and his previous objections to contracts for coaches having to "explain high salaries to professors". It didn't come from just this article but rather several over the last few days along with what coaches said the last time around about how adversarial the relationship was from Cheek.bluetick wrote:LMAObluetick wrote:Big Orange Junky wrote:Looks like Cheek wasn't on board after all and Matthews was right.

That and the fact that "snags" have came up supposedly from his department that's why.
Hope he's looking for another job soon too.
But yes, two of the articles are from Matthews. Just because you don't like Matthews doesn't mean he isn't accurate.

Because it took him this long? He's bee in charge of the UTAD 2 years - these scholarships have been going on for forty years.Big Orange Junky wrote:

The rest of what you said is just made-up BS. Professors have bitched about athletic budgets since Vietnam.
Money was not an issue under Majors, Fulmer, or Kiffin. We have a top 5 physical plant for football (an bills to match). The mere notion that academics has held back the program is nuts. Radar panicked with weeks to go before signing day and made a bad hire with Dooley. EOS.

Bray is not a football player - the thought of getting his jersey dirty makes him soil himself.
