That ain't college.
College is eating peanut butter and ramen noodles for 10 days straight because you blew your rent money at a strip club, college is walking around with a stiff neck because you and a girl got shitfaced, fucked in her dorm room and slept on a lumpy ass twin bed, college is going to a club that sells domestic beer by the pitcher and listening to really bad cover band of The Doors, College is taking a philosophy class and justifying it to trip on acid (or whatever kids these days take), College is selling your textbooks 2 weeks before finals to payoff the money you still owe from Spring Break, College is laughing at your friend getting crabs from the girl that hangs out in the quad lounge...and scared you might have them because you sniffed her underwear in the laundry room when no one was there.
Taking classes on your couch on a goddamned Chromebook ain't college
I wish I could "Like" this post, or whatever people do on social media these days.
I will take it a step further, that staying at home and commuting to college is only about 42% college. It's even better if the college is over 70 miles away.

Most of what I learned in college has helped me through my life since then and very little of it came in the classroom.

Also, you should impress upon your son the urgency of trying to nail as many chicks as he can (safely, of course) right now while his window is wide open because before he knows it, it will be slammed shut and nailed tight and the sills painted over.

I told him that exact thing last night
Girls are stupid now
they get smarter
I actually told him I'll let him do the commuter thing and live with us for a year but he's living on campus, and while he is on campus he is going to join at least 2 campus groups - I don't care if he goes greek or nerd or Frisbee golf as long as his entire life centers around campus. I can't imagine dropping the kind of bank we're about to drop and miss out on at least once trying to have sex with a girl with her roommate pretending to be asleep in the bed on the other side of the room.

the kind of bank you are about to drop means your son isn't the only one that's going to get royally screwed the next 4-6 years

My son has been commuting to college last year and a half. Well, we just turned the tables on him by announcing we are moving away.

I'm sure there will be other colleges within commuting distance from your new locale. But I do like getting a glimpse into the "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf" dynamics of your fambly...

A couple of months ago I tried to be a parent and read an article about "apps all parents should know about" and one of them was called Kik.
So I asked my daughter if she had the Kik app on her phone and she told me that kids that use Kik (at least in her world) it to hook up for sex.
So on the way back from college my son was glued to his phone (as are most kids today) and I asked him what he was doing and he said he was messaging a girl on his Kik account.
It was a moment of pride for me. The kid is gonna be OK.

But if the girl wasn't from the Cracker Barrel, and he didn't have a pocket full of eager quarters, then he still ain't shit!

true, I'm still working on that.
its a big hill to climb right now
I'm using the 15 years from now when you're in a shitty marriage you're gonna be mad at yourself for not tapping that Cracker Barrel ass when you had the chance.
Surprisingly, its getting some traction.
