I suspect that the white sauce has its origins in the stews of Birminghams Hispanic community. A fusion of sultry southern European simplicity, indo-American essences, and trailer park charm.

hedge wrote:I was in Columbia last weekend, somebody got some pulled pork with mustard sauce on the side. I tried it, definitely better than ketchup based sauce, but still too thick for my tastes. Like most ketchup based sauces, I could detect added sugar, but at least the mustard offset it somewhat, as ketchup (which is already somewhat sweet to start with) does not. I just don't like a thick sauce, and definitely not a thick sweet sauce. And when I say sweet, I mean anything sweeter than vinegar...
Go to Palmetto Pig when you're down there again.

I am not familiar with this "white BBQ sauce" some speak of. Is this what goes on chicken fried steak? I had a lot of that when I lived in TX (both times). aTm, is the Blackeyed Pea chain still in business out there?

Great clip and song.

1. I've lived Alabama twice and have never seen white BBQ sauce. I hope I never will.
2. I have never lived in South Carolina, but the idea of mustard-based BBQ sauce is less appetizing than Alabama white sauce, or even North Carolina vinegar based sauce (which is tolerable if real BBQ sauce is unavailable).
3. I agree with their statement about Florida.

Why did Alabama cancel its home-and-home with Michigan State? MSU's AD says that Bama called him up one day and said that they still wanted the first game played iN Tuscaloosa but demanded that MSU give up ITS home game and move it to a 'neutral site" instead (presumably in the South). MSU said no, so Bama cancelled.

Because B1G fans are insufferable and playing at their locale would subject us to the worst fans in all of sport.

Or, because we thought the 9-game conference schedule would be a reality and we didn't want to play another away game that year.

Absence any evidence to the contrary, I'm going with the former.

In other news, I LOVE that Auburn has now upped their claimed national championships from 2 to 5.

That's kinda the point of my post. Auburn fans have made great fun of Bama for claiming 15 (though we could claim more).

And of the ones we claim, there is only one I wish we would remove from the list. It's the only one post 1936 that is a non AP/Coaches/BCS.

As an Auburn fan, I tend to keep up on such things. Where and how did Auburn claim 5 NC's?

Maybe there was a laundromat in Opelika that gave us one back in the '20's. I only claim 2, FWIW.

I thought it was silly when Alabama did that. I think it is silly if we do it too.
