No, that's not the "new" defense, when the goddamn Secretary of Defense and Secretary of State are in on it, that is the executive branch, i.e., Trump himself, being "in on it." That's just is the way shit works. Do you think the president is supposed to personally be in on every single call? Trump was too busy tweeting to deal with stuff like that. If Trump can't keep up with his own people, that's him being an idiot, not them being traitors. Face it, you bought into a lie b/c you wanted to believe it. The reality is that those guys didn't support Trump for whatever reasons and made decisions on their own justifying it with some warped sense of patriotic duty. Did you even read the article you posted?

If General Milley was following Esper’s lead — something not even hinted by Woodward and Costa — that does not make this a total nonstory. There is still the question of whether the secretary of defense was undermining the president. But it does exonerate the general of having done what the Post previously reported, because the buck stops with his civilian boss. Given the gravity of the charge, Congress is entitled to more than unnamed sources. General Milley is due to testify before the Senate Armed Services Committee on September 28, and he should be walked on the record through the Woodward and Costa report and asked, under oath, whether he said what was reported, whether he did so under the direction of the secretary of defense, and whether he was the source for the Woodward and Costa story.

and I don't think it exonerates Milley given that he called Pelosi to let her know what he was doing. His was trying to build a consensus for protection and approval of his actions in case the shit hit the fan and this went public.

If there was a realistic threat perceived by China, they should have engaged the president and his staff to alert him to their concerns and lived with whatever decisions he made up to the point of him issuing an immoral or illegal order.

I don’t like Milley, but he was doing the admin’s and Trump’s bidding by contacting China. I blame the over the top book, that is typical of the author, making Milley out as someone who was worried that Trump was going to “go off” and do something stupid which wasn’t the case.

Speaking of going off, I guess the President didn’t give a shit what his military advisors told him, but then threw them under the bus by saying no one told him.

They parked in the parking lot of what was one of DS Sr's favorite restaurants back in the day: Becky's Log Cabin. That salad bar and the giant block of hoop cheese were on point.

You could leave the house where I was raised, cross the river on Ferry Bridge Road (as long as it wasn't flooded), go through the "Neuse Islands" (low lying land and swamps near the river), cut through Brogden (the Johnston County version and birthplace and home of Ava Gardner) and end up at Becky's Log Cabin in 25 minutes or so.

Sounds like you had to shimmy around Busco beach to get there...
