The reason Bama fans have high expectations for Coker is that many (most?) associated with the FSU program felt he outplayed Winston in the fall camp last year, so being neck and neck with the eventual Heisman/MNC winner portends of good things. Yes, he was a three star but if there's one thing Fisher has been pretty darn good at, it's finding and grooming QBs (Russell - #1 overall, Ponder - #12 overall, Manuel - #16 overall, Winston - likely future top 5 overall). He was the first major program to offer Coker and once that was done, other high profile programs like Bama and AU followed suit. He has above average speed, an above average arm but it's yet to be proven how well that translates to the field.
If we hadn't had Winston last year, I would have been comfortable with Coker at the helm (but do not feel we would have been undefeated with him).

Wouldn't have been undefeated? At Bammer, that's called a bust...

Kev,
No, he's a 3-star with no future, a rag-armed bum who couldn't beat out the baseball player FSU has at QB. Why, prof watched the UA spring game an even though Coker didn't play, he can smell what the Kiffin has cooking - which is nothing except a giant pot of bitter turnips and despair.

I can see that my attempts to be civil, fair, and balanced with AA have been in vain. His weapons-grade laxative must have quit working recently.

You guys should make up over a nice plate of Alabama white sauce barbecue.

You're a Texan. You think barbecue is a grilled brisket.

The only thing worse is that nasty North Carolina vinegar-based swill.

Correct.

I already agreed with you on several things - that an athlete's star rating and performance at one school does not predetermine his performance at another school, and that the Palm Sunday Bama fans are currently having with Coker is a function of natural fan optimism and media quest for ratings, and that he may be decent QB despite his stats.

Don't read TOO much into his stats at FSU.
He generally came in with a 3-4 TD lead, when the entire offense was being replaced. Our starting OL was excellent; our backup OL was horrid. Our starting receivers were excellent; our backup WRs were keystone cops. He never looked comfortable but that may very well be due to his teammates. It's a shame he couldn't get a couple of series in with the other starters but when you play in the ACC, you can't expect decent competition.

Agreed, vinegar-based 'eastern NC' barbecue is something you should grout your shower with....

" that an athlete's star rating and performance at one school does not predetermine his performance at another school"
Are you suggesting that there is anything that can predetermine any player's performance, ever? Predict, maybe, but predetermine? I thought that was the whole point of playing the games...
I also predict that those eschewing vinegar barbecue have not tried it, and if they ever do, it will predetermine their future choice with regard to said dish (which will be vinegar)...

Isn't there an old saying like "You can catch more flies with Alabama white sauce than with vinegar."
