So today my oldest and I were watching some stupid cable show (I was doing paperwork and pretending to be interested) when an ad on TV came across for this.

http://www.blackpeoplemeet.com

Her first question was what the reaction would be if there was a website named

I told her there probably was already one and figure it out yourself.

Her next question (which made me snort) was, did it start in Alabama?

There is one for white people.

^That

Also, white people pulled a fast one with co-signing that Black History Month shit. They made it in February, the shortest and coldest month of the year. And the whole thing is boiled down to slavery, Dr. King, Oprah and now Obama.

At that point, just let everyone go back to Chaucer, Steinbeck, the Founding Fathers and the Industrial Revolution.

How did Chaucer make the cut on that list?

It was (deliberately) more about the Euro-centric canon of Western literature that threads a narrative of the Anglo being virtually the singular relevant contributor.

I guess Chaucer could be forgiven for believing that...

Fair comment.

Actually, I think every author could be "forgiven" for that line of thinking, as it is a vocation that is inherently self-centered, in a way. I'm not mad at Chaucer, Shakespeare, Steinbeck or any of them. I love their shit (well, except for Shakespeare. Never could get into his style. I do admire his ability to craft a story). My annoyance is on the framers of curriculum that perpetuate that narrative. I did honors English since 8th grade and did not read anyone outside of the Anglo influence besides one Alice Walker short story and Dostoevsky, if he counts. If it wasn't for growing up in the household I did...and the timing of political rap music hitting big during that time...I don't know if I would have ever corrected that fallacy in my head.

Actually, given the context of this exchange, I should've written "Think how indians (casino, not red dot) must feel..."

64764, haven't made it to 8192 yet though and lately have been on a run where can't get it to 4096

Shakespeare is ok. The books I just hate are both by the same author. Portrait of an Artist as a Young Man and Ulysses are just horribly booooorring to me.

I've only gotten 4096 once, but multiple times have had 2048 with a 1024 nearby but couldn't hit it
