July 13 my county had 4 cases of Covid

July 29 they had 41

I believe the delta variant is going to be the catalyst to getting herd immunity

Leaders in Portland, Ore., are looking to combat the city’s rising homicide rate by resurrecting a police unit focused on gun violence. But after a year of growing tension within the department, they can’t find enough officers to join.

Since 14 job openings were announced in May, only four police personnel have applied to work with the new version of Portland’s Gun Violence Reduction Team, which was shut down last year amid long-running protests seeking racial justice and an overhaul of police practices. None have yet been assigned.

Portland officers say such positions, once considered prestigious, are now less desirable, given the increased scrutiny that accompanies them. The new unit has its own citizen-advisory board, instituted after the old unit was criticized by city leaders for racial profiling. A job description says qualifications include the ability to fight systemic racism.

“They’re demonizing and vilifying you, and then they want to put you in a unit where you’re under an even bigger microscope,” said Daryl Turner, head of the union that represents Portland’s officers.

Portland police have coped with frequent late-night street violence in the past year, as well as criticism from politicians and activists on the right and left.

Jami Resch, assistant chief of the Portland Police Bureau’s investigations branch, acknowledged that morale is down in the department. She said criticism of the old unit and uncertainty surrounding the new one and its relationship with the oversight committee have slowed applications. Once those roles are clarified, there will be more interest, she predicted.

Homicide rates rose 24% in a sample of 32 American cities in the first quarter of 2021, compared with the same period last year, according to a recent study by the Council on Criminal Justice, a think tank focusing on criminal-justice policy and research. The rates are far below peaks from the 1990s.

Cops need to suck it up. Get with the program. Once they finally figure out what exactly the program is. They need to sell it though and they need to hurry up.

I mean that is fine and all but what if they wont "get with the program?" What we are seeing here in Arizona with our law enforcement shortage (coupled with all our labor shortages) is that we HAD a job that young men really wanted to do. HAD being the operative word. There was a long line forming at the entrance to both of our police academies. Line went basically to zero. Short of "conscription" I don't see how we are going to add to that line, not if one of the conditions of getting in that line means "getting with the program."

I mean I would never "get with your program" rat. Never, ever. So (shrug) if I wont, and I am nothing special, what makes you think anyone else will?

Because law enforcement is changing whether you like it or not. It has to.

Of course things change. Of course they do. Change is good. But if no one wants to be a cop anymore because no one wants to do that job according to the way you think the job should be, that is tough noogies for us rat. That means we don't get any cops. Which is where things are right now.

When the federal government runs low on military enlistment (something that hasn't really happened since 1975) then they conscript. They point a gun at our young men and tell them "you are a soldier son." That is it. And the boy has no say in the matter. He goes to boot camp OR he goes to prison. But that has not happened since Nixon ended conscription in the early 1970s. And we haven't had a need to bring the draft back because our army, navy, air force, and marines are recruiting enough people without a draft. Tell me, short of a "draft" what is a community that is drastically short on law enforcement supposed to do if young men refuse to take that job simply because they don't like your "changes?"

President Biden did not directly address a question from Fox News’ Peter Doocy Tuesday asking why his administration is continuing to allow untested and unvaccinated illegal immigrants into the country while at the same time urging and in some cases mandating that Americans take the coronavirus vaccine.

"You just said there is no wall high enough and no ocean wide enough to protect us from the virus," Doocy asked the president. "So what is the thinking behind letting untested and unvaccinated migrants across the southern border into U.S. cities in record numbers?"

Biden responded by saying that he has not rescinded an order urging migrants who are unvaccinated to go back across the border.

"We have not withdrawn the order that is sometimes -- criticized saying that unvaccinated people should go back across the border," Biden said, adding that unaccompanied children are a "different story."

------

mandating masks, fining and arresting people not complying, vaccine passports

but we are "urging" illegals to go back across the border.

fucking liberal mentality

I love Republicans bitching about the border. They're trying really hard to make Americans lives miserable without thinking it through. 2022 is going to be a Republican bloodbath. Then, we heal. The border. Heh.

4 Capitol law enforcement officers have committed suicide in the last 48 hours. All 4 were at the Capitol protecting it on January 6th.

I guess they couldn't adapt.

no rat I am not stalking you. you are not that important. I am just disagreeing with you. The cops will not be adapting. They will quit or kill themselves. And we are not getting new cops.

And it was 4 that committed suicide.
The deaths mark four known suicides by officers who responded to the Capitol during the attack, and three known suicides by a DC officer specifically.
This is a big deal. Please do not try and downplay it.

I get the sentiment, I guess if rent control is legal in New York, then moratoriums can be justified in the interest of public safety.

Its should be a state issue, not a federal one. Unemployment is crazy low in many states, some are below 4%

Dude. You're a fucking right wing blow hard idiot. You said 4 committed suicide in the past 48 hours. It's 4 since January 6th. Typical Republican spin.

Second. Again. You are a fucking idiot. Without researching application numbers but just academy graduates from the city of Cincinnati, (Hamilton County is bigger) the numbers are actually up.

2018 37
2019 46
2020 40
2021 49. Record 66 retired.

Probably because these new recruits hate what Trump did to our country with all his hate and wanted to fix it. Much like the influx of military recruits right after 9/11. Another crushing blow to our country.
