I see the NCAA is considering rules that would limit the hurry up no huddle offense. Saban must have decided that, if you can't beat it, outlaw it.

I think it's pretty shitty to have a discussion and invite Bielema and Saban while not even bothering get an opinion from guys like Malzhan, Sumlin, Helfrich, Holgerson or Gundy or whoever.

"The thing that's most shameful about this is it's a clear manipulation through self-interest by people who don't want to coach within the parameters where strategy and ingenuity has taken the game," said Washington State coach Mike Leach. "So now they want to manipulate the rules, and in needing an excuse to do this, they try to hide behind player safety. It's ridiculous."

Back in the 70's and early 80's, the wishbone was the unstoppable offense. Can you imagine if Woody Hayes or Ara Parsegian demanded the NCAA ban it simply because teams that ran it were kicking their butts?

Bama ran the wishbone to perfection back then. I can imagine their fans' reaction if the NCAA passed a rule that stated the quarterback cannot decide whether to hand off the ball to a fullback running up the middle, or keep it running around the end, or pitch it to a trailing back. No "reading allowed." All in the name of "player safety."

Quote: "If Saban & Bielema want the game slowed down that badly, they should go back to coaching in the Big 10."

About what? Were they worse after the fact than the time you got into that tiff questioning why someone would give the edge to Auburn's special teams over Alabama?

I think there was also a discussion where AA said kick returns weren't an important part of football. There was no metric to prove the worth of kick returns, or some such.

Incorrect, a usual. I said, something along the lines of, "Bama -statistically- has a better special teams unit than Auburn. Which, at the time, was correct.

Both quotes are correct.

Considering those quotes were just before Iron Bowl, they were downright reverse-prophetic.

No, they were never offered as prophesy to begin with. Simply an assessment of previous performance and a discussion on the metrics used. And, if I recall, we were talking punt and kickoff returns. Which isn't exactly what happened in the game.
