Her son's friends talked him into coming up to some podunk town on the border of Ohio/Pennsylvania to work this job, the kid spends his last dime to get up there, works 2 days on the job and the place closes down. So he's stranded - no place to stay, no car, no money and his momma is begging my wife to go get him. He begged off to sleep on someone's couch last night.

So my wife agrees, she is on the way to get him, we're gonna feed him, buy him a bus ticket and put some burger money in his pocket for the way down.

What I was thinking about though is - that is the great thing about being 20 years old. This would be devastating to me at this point in my life. To him its just a story he'll tell to his friends next week. Life is about taking chances at that age. I kinda wish I did more of it 25 years ago.
My folks let me travel by Greyhound to Ft. Lauderdale when I was a junior in high school. 1985. 41 hours. I might even be DSs Daddy considering how many stops we hit in NC. Senior year we hit Daytona.

Does it give you any kind of message DS? Is it just the quick reply or the main Post Reply button, too?

Phone was doing it on other websites and apps. I shut down my phone and everything is fine after I restarted it. So, it may have been something on my end.

so the kid spends 1 night with us - looks at my workshop with my projects (4 wheel ATVs scattered about in various states of repair) and decides he wants to live with us. Its the Eddie Murphy ritz cracker syndrome. He's been sleeping on an old couch with 5 Navajo Indians for the past month eating peanut butter and cereal and now my house is a got damn palace with warm meals, an actual bed and real coke in the fridge.

it was a good experience. I learned 2 things - 1. to a 20 year old country boy, I'm a pretty cool old man and 2. I don't want a 20 year old country boy living with me.

kid had a full ride football scholarship as a running back to U.S.A. ( a newcomer to DI football) and turned it down because he wanted to make money working in HVAC for $13 an hour.

I want to call his momma up and tell her to just sit and wait for me, I'm gonna show up and punch her in the mouth. Who lets a kid do this?

sounds like you need to drop him off at a recruiting station

yea, I actually thought that was the best option for him as well. Kid is about 6'3" and looks like an ass kicker and he's not dumb, just isn't a college ready kid.

got back from my conference

Drove down to Mount Airy and had lunch at the Barney Cafe.

Glad I did it, never going back.

On the way there or on the way out - I don't remember which we drove by Lake Norman which I thought was a pretty cool area.

Did the typical convention thing, had a good time but it was hot as balls. I went to the boardwalk once, the rest of the time I hit the pool around 8pm.

On the return we did the Asheville to Knoxville route going on I-26 to I-40. I had done it before but no doubt its a much better drive thru the mountains than I-75

Drove from Fort Lauderdale to Cinci - left at 6am and got home at 10pm last night. I don't want to see a car anytime soon.

I think it was a good week for my career - our company is just starting to be on the edge of transition chaos. We have several people retiring in the next year and no idea how to replace them as of yet, plus some go getters are jumping ship for retiree opportunities at other companies.

I really like the job I have now but it may be time to step into a more demanding (and hopefully financially rewarding) role.

There will be no shortage of people lining up to take the go karting, event party planning, liberal expense account job they think I have now.

my vacation will be labor day weekend at torrey pines resort. 4 nights get a free round of golf on the north or pay 100 and play the south. we paid the hundred and I have a 740 tee time (second one out)
sandiego zoo that weekend too. hotel is 290 plus 29 a night resort fee. I have no clue why they add resort fees. why go stay in a resort if your not going to use the resort shit.

I had to postpone my summer vacation for a few weeks. Things happen. Sorta glad though because it will be off-season when we get there. Always liked less people around.

Added a new twist to the lemon/pepper mixture: I started using one grapefruit as well, and eliminate any external sweetener...
