I have a nasty cold, went to the pharmacist to get the good shit behind the counter. He asked me if I'm on any prescription medication. I said no. He said, you know, like for high blood pressure. I again said no. Then he gave me a look that could only be interpreted as "You should be."
Goddamned asian pharmacist...

Actually, there was a link to that brawl in another story on the front page of Yahoo about some high school saphomore getting kicked out of a game when he glared at an opponent after a monster slam. But it looks like a good site...

I've actually never visited the site, but all the admins at my firm do, so I look to them to keep me abreast of what's hot on the streets.

Shoes? Those, like me, with street cred call them 'kicks'.

at a recent HS wrestling tournament we covered, there was a chick who got her first career win, earning a 4-3 decision over some hapless freshman. as a follow up to the main story, Tom Ham (former sports editor) wrote a story about her and we had a picture of her on her opponents' back. The story treated the kid who lost very fairly, downplaying his loss although he scattered as soon as the event was over and wasn't interviewed.
2 days later, his aunt calls me to accuse me of being "mean-spirited" and "horrible" for running the photo and story. never mind that I told her it was not about him. she said I should have to walk down the halls at school with him. finally, I sort of snapped at her and said sports are about winning and losing and the best thing for him to do is work harder and win next time. I refrained from saying that if he couldn't handle it, there was a spot in the band or chorus for him.
She called back today to demand that Ham return her call and if he didn't, she'll be coming down here.
My problem is she apparently works for the pediatricians office where my kid goes and it's the only one in town.

I'd like to ask her what she wants. The story can't be unwritten, and that match can't be undone. Does she want a retraction? What would it say? "We are sorry we ran a story about a narrow-chested snowflake who managed to get beaten by a girl at....wrestling, because the snowflake has gotten his feelings hurt."
Also, even if no story had been written, the kids were gonna be brutal. This is sass on a level that doesn't come around too often.

she wanted to bitch at somebody and that's about it. I edited out one comment from a member of the opposing team that said, "He got beat by a girl and that's all you can say about it" because that seemed like piling on a bit.
He's hardly the first boy to lose to a girl in wrestling around here. some chick in a neighboring county went to the state tourney a few years ago and, unlike this gal in our story, was sort of hot.
the bigger picture here is how mommas and aunts are inserting themselves more and more into sports. not a week goes by that I don't hear from either a proud or pissed off momma about something. when I was a kid, my mom dropped me off and picked me up from practice and went to most of my home games. hardly anyone's mammy then would try to get involved with the coaches' decisions or the newspaper. now they all do it. and the redneck softball mommas are the worst.

wrestling a girl at a hs age would probably give me a boner. I then would have penned her with my manhood

As I mentioned, I have a cold. Yesterday I was eating a chicken sandwich and in the middle of a mouthful of sammich I had a coughing fit. I ended up blowing out a chunk of chicken about the size of a grape through my nose.
That is all.

That's nothing. Doc blows whole chickens out of his nose daily.
